View Full Version : Brand New 400, parking brake drags

Ok, I just purchased a brand new 400EX and literally 5 minutes after taking it out of the truck and unlocking the parking brake, the bike wouldn't roll, so I checked the rear PB lever and it sticks like a SOB. It happens every time I ride now (3 times rode so far). Based on some of the comments in this forum, it sounds like I should just bite the bullet and fully adjust the PB so that it has a ton of slack and just don't use the damn thing. Sucks, every vehicle I"ve ever owned (except my truck) was a Honda and they've treated me very well, guess that can't make everything perfect (6 cars, 6 bikes, 3 quads, 4 dirtbikes), this really disappoints me. So, should I just say forget using the PB forever?

Hey i would just say to spend the whopping 10-15 dollars and buy the parking break block off. I mean if u are going to not use and and adjust it to where it has nothing but slack spend the money and get rid of the cable and everything. Just my opinion i have never had to use the parking break!

Just back it out. They just put that cheap junk on there to make the goverment happy. Leave it in gear and it won't go anywhere. :D

Everyones parking break has gone out don't worry. Thats what the gears are for. I just leave mine in 1st gear whenever I dont want it to move.

Never use mine, but wish it still worked. Eventually you can warp gears by parking it like that, but it is more of a concern in cars then the light 400ex. Mine also went out right away, but it lasted about a week.
