I am in the proces of building a trx 250r from the frame up.A couple questons 1)will a 1988/89 aluminum swing-arm fit on a 1986 trx chassis?2) will stock 450r shocks work on the same frame?3)does anyone know much about a moto-plex ignition??Any responses are greatly appreciated

Yes, the 88/89 swinger will bolt right up to your 86 frame. It's actually 1" shorter than the 86/87 making you have a little better traction and quicker turning.

The 450r shocks will fit too. A word of warning though.... They will be very stiff unless you weigh 250+ I have a set that are being sent out for a triple conversion and revalving.

Don't know anything about the motoplex ignition.

the swingarm will bolt up, but you will lose your lower rear engine mount by doing this. You will have to fabricate the rear engine mounts onto the frame if you do this.

Will the swing arm work or do i have to fabricate. My frame is getting hot tanked tommorrow and the to the fabricator by saturday.well i have the option to pick up a 88 arm in good shape and if i have to make it work we will. But whats the truth is it a bolt up?As far as the shocks im right around 235lb so i think those will work out great for me....thank you

you have to fabricate rear motor mounts. The 88-89 frames have the rear motor mount on the frame already, the 86-87 have the plate deal the swingarm pivot bolt slides through.

These might help you better understand, the swingarm bolt goes entirely through the swingarm only on the 88/89 models. The 86/87 models use this piece in conjunction with the swingarm as a rear motor mount:
