We are going to go and buy a new gas powered washer for traveling(last race was a PITA not having one !)
I know there is a recommended PSI for the Atvs, not sure what that is??
Im guessing around 2000-2200??
I think we will most likely go to Sears to buy one, unless something better is suggested.
We are on a travelers budget so please keep that in mind too ..lol :p

Thanks for your suggestions!

Lets start here....

Pros and Cons ??

This one has a 2 -n-1 detergent system, I dont think the 1st one does.

I have a similar Excell but it's a 2300psi, for about $175 on clearence. I'm not impressed with it at all. I talked to the rental guy about what makes one unit better than the other, he said it's the pump. I belive GPI (gallons per minute) is as important as PSI.

i am really not impressed with my craftsman, mine is a 1700 psi though. First one blew the engine after about 30 minutes of use, took it back, got another just cause i hadn't even owned it 3 days. second one sprung an oil leak conviniently a month and a day or two after i replaced the first one. now i have to spend just as much time powerwashing the oil off my driveway after i clean my quad, as i did washing the quad.

We have a Troy Built one. Honda engine, 2600 PSI, 2.5 GPM, model # 020241 works great for us. we got it at either lowes or home depot. we take it along most of the time we go riding and racing, we hook it up to our 55-gallon barrel that we fill with water.

Ours has a hose to put in a bucket of soapy water. Works great.

GPM has a far greater effect.

My Opinion: get a Honda :macho

Looking through a Northern Tool catalog will probably net you some of your best prices

I'd recommend one with a Honda engine. I know they aren't the cheapest, but you'll only have to buy it once. The one we had on the farm, not sure of the brand?, no lie, was used almost every day for 5+ years with NO problems other than a carb rebuild one time. It never had the oil or spark plug changed, it was just plain abused, and it would start 1st pull in the dead of winter every time. You couldn't ask for more.

Every dollar counts right now for us since we travel alot and I do mean ALOT. lol
with 4 quads traveling it sucks us dry-not to say that I want junk but isnt a honda ALOT more in price?I am sureits great quality butI need to fine a happy medium right now.
I still need to get a barrel too so an outfit thats convient for taking with us is essential. Were low on room ! lol

I have a 1600 psi and it works plenty fine. I think if you get up to 2500 your going to be ripping everything off.

So is a 2000-2200 PSI too much then?

I dont want to blast the PC off . LOL :p

Can someone post some info on the importance of GPM?

My 2300psi in 'fan' mode is like zip tying the garden hose to a leaf blower, not very impressive. In 'pencil' mode it'll etch the concrete though:ermm: It does ok but not great for general cleaning.

I rented one before buying the one I have now. The rental was similar or maybe even less PSI but it performed a whole lot better so don't rely only on what the PSI is

Youre not kidding! 40,000 PSI?

500 Horsepower (375 kW) • 98 gpm (371 lpm) at 8000 psi (550 bar)
19 gpm (72 lpm) at 40,000 psi (2750 bar).

The one that we have, the one that we have, a Troy built...it has a very reliable Honda engine, and it did not cost too much. I'm pretty sure it was somewhere between $300-$400. And no 2200 psi is NOT too much. Ours is 2600 psi, and 2.5 gpm, and it works great. It wouldn't take off your powdercoating off unless your planning n using the finest, strongest tip and holding it there for a while. The only thing you have to be careful with with this much psi is not to get it too close to your graphics and stickers because it can blow them off if you get too close. Hope this helps you a little bit.

regardless of which one you get...a couple of words of advice....one is if there are stickers that provide any type important info like "on" or "off", or "choke"make permanent marks to mark these positions!... guaranteed just because of the nature of these machines use they will come off. and there is nothing more frustrating then trying to start something not knowing which is on or which is off etc. etc.!!:D . and secondly come winter time make sure ALL WATER is out of the washer...because if it isn't come spring you'll be finding spewing water from cracks in expensive parts of the machine, this is from sitting water that turned to ice...i speak from experience on both examples given....one is just as frustarting as the other is costly i assure you.....and by the way i got a craftsman 2600 psi that has the ability to use chemicals, and it works great....it also has enough power to do the house in the spring....they may be a little more steeply priced, but it's tough to beat craftsman quality....
