What do you need to make a 400ex street legal and how much will it cost. I just think it would be weird seing a 400ex go through a drive through:D

Call your local DMV and see if it is even possible to do it in your state. In AZ all you need is a mirror, horn, brake light, and license plate holder with lamp. My local dealer here sells a kit with all of that for about $150. They use a universal motorcycle plate and lamp kit and a hydralic swith to install in the rear disc brake assembly for the brake light. The gray area is the use of D.O.T tires. Stock tires say "not for highway use" on them and some cops will cite you for it some won't.

Dirt Wheels had one in the issue with the Polaris 500. The guy just added turn signals, a motorcycle motor, and brighter headlamps I believe. I figure with the strict laws we have in Cali nothing like that would ever get by...

dual sports are emission exempt unless you buy them as a dual sport (like an XR650L) but if you just put a street legal kit on a regular bike (like an XR650R) you're exempt... there's a guy down the street that has a street legal CR500

i heard but dont quote me on this that flat track tires like Hoosier and American racing tires were d.o.t approved. i spose thieir better to get away with than like mx holeshots or turfs :P. i mean they got no nobs and the closest to car tires that you can get. why not ungrooved radials for the front? just my .02. i wanna do this to mine too.

Jello I heard its fairly easy to make a quad street legal in AZ. I saw a couple 400ex's on the road while I was there. Also, some guy I met at the dunes had a street legal 400ex which he converted back and forth from duning and street "version"

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but what about Washington state? Man, I would love to cruise around town with my woman and our Z's. Oh well, will have to due with cruising logging roads and trails....=-)

u know whats even funnier than seeing one "ride" through the drive through at micky d's? SEEING ONE RIDE A WHEELIE THROUGH THE DRIVE THROUGH AT MICKY D'S!!!! i was at my dads and i was workin on my 250x when a bunch of friends came over and said they thought it would be funny to see it happen (we were making a skate/BMX/bladin video at the time). so my stupid self said i would meet them up there in about 15 min (had to put the plastic back on and filter in). then i came bustin outa the back yard i hit 4 gear by the time i was on the road(30 feet?).when i got down there they were already laughing about it. there was no one at the drive through and they drove up there in the van to order somethin and when the guy said pull up i went flyin past the window ridin a wheelie past the window. the dude freaked out! it was great! yall should try it one day its funny as crap just make sure you got a few tape recorders on hand to catch the action!!! lol later yall...

I seen plenty street legal banshee's: headlights, tail lights, blinker's, mirrors, lower the quad, road tires, nerf bars, some prolly flattrack stuff would help too and make it look trick

Anyone know if you can do this in New Hampshire? That would be so awesome to drive your quad to school, work, whatever

11-01-2002, 08:24 PM
Yea but it would be too much on the motor unless it were a superbike motor in some quad that looked nice
