should i ride with my snorkel and air box lid on or off?

i have a 01 400ex and i just bought it and they guy has the snorkel and air box lid off should i put them back on and rejet or what? i dont know how serious problems are with this stuff off? i ride in trails with alot of dusty dirt! am i really getting alot more power with them off?

Run no lid and plug the snorkel hole with a spray can lid. Done.

make sure you buy an outerwear cover for your air filter it will prevent water/mud/dirt from gettin all over and in it.
