I just buy a WB CDI unit for my 400ex. Yesterday, I put this on my quad and try to fire up, result : NOTHING!!!!

I put the choke, play with the throttle....NOTHING.

After that, I decide to re-install my stock unit, the bike start very well. I let it warm a little bit and re-install the WB CDI. I try to start the bike again, result: NOTHING.

What's the problem: jetting, the WB CDI...

My jetting set up is: 38 pilot, 165 main, stock clip position. I have K&N filter without airbox lid.

Thanks

alex

Try putting in a 42 or 45 pilot. Make sure that your battery is good and charged to spin over the starter. The WB box is from the XR400, which is a kick start bike and when you kick it it will spin more than the electtic start spins. That is the problem with the WB boxes.
If it still won't start send it back if new, it could be a bad box.

THE WB box is the problem with your quad,,,sell the WB CDI and spend the money on something else,,it will give you problems for ever, no matter what you do to your jetting,,you can wave a magic wand over your quad everyday if ya want..but you'll always have problems with that WB CDI...I had one and sold it...it's kind of embaressing having a quad worth $11,000+ and ya gotta push start it.:o

I think WB needs a class action lawsuit against them for selling that POS CDI..

Hey Rico do these problems occur with the stock cdi boxes thathave the rev. limiter removed?

I don't think so,,WB is the only CDI box that I've heard of that has the problems with starting..

I too had problems trying to start my 400ex, even in Cali, in 75 degree weather:huh That damm WB cdi is no good. It's not your quad, it's the box. You don't even need it bro. Maybe if you had a 416, or 440, but no even sure about that either......

just my 2 cents...

I have the WB rev box and my bike fires right up, hot or cold.

I would guess you got a bad box or consider the common post about the battery needing to be at 100% to fire with the WB box....

I switched cdis with a buddy back to back and i could tell no difference at all. Why shift when the power begins to fall off anyways?
Edit: We all know the stock 400's power drops like a rock in the upper rpms unless you got a pretty wild cam and bore set up for topend then it is utterly useless to me.

Mine worked flawlessly for 9 months,,then it never wanted to turn over one day and it stayed that way for ever..so if it's workin now,,that's great,,give it time odds are it will fail later down the line. And if even if your battery is not charged fully,,that's still BS..when ya buy a product,,you shouldn't have to have a fully charged battery, the temprature be about 80 degrees,,the moon, sun, and earth all lined up..etc etc etc..it should just work..

I had the same problem and installed a degree key. besides the key waking my motor up, it made the bike start easier. Until it starts to get cold that is. Maybe below 45 degrees.

It's dangerous to advance the timing (like the WB box do) when you have a racing cam???
