mix pipe and silencers?

Can you mix brands of pipe and silencers, or do you need to stick with the same brand for them to match/mount up and fit correctly?

my buddy ran a FMF pipe and bills silencer... he didnt like the oval FMF, and didnt like how the duncan was off centered, so he bought the bills...

I know that the ESR 5 and CT midrange will work with a Sparks silencer with NO modification. Also found out that CT silencers will work with other pipes but require some modification.

Thanks! I have a ct midrange pipe and I'm looking for a used silencer. I didn't know if I had to use a ct silencer.

The FMF wont fit the CT midrange pipe I've tryed that before.
CT pipe stingers are a little bigger than most pipes.
