My 400ex use to short-out and nobody had the answer for me.
While fixing my lights, ah ha, the short. Right behind the light where the wire comes in to the light it wobbles back and forth on a piece of metal. I could see the bare wire touching the metal. I put some black tape on it and it has shorted-out yet.
