Just wondering if anybody else squirrel hunt and what calls do you use, gun, choke, etc.

I went to day and got 6, 3 were big *** fox squirrels. I use the squirrel distress call and hit a small bushy limb on the ground and it resembles a young squirrel getting attacked by a hawk, works pretty good.

TIP: If you rub 2 coins together, it make the sound of a squirrrel eating and makes other squirrels think it is safe to come out.

Post your secrets or tips.

we usually use our leftover slugs from deer hunting (usually about 4 boxes cause we never see any deer :grr ) and shoot squirrels out of trees. nothing better then getting one dead on with a 12 gauge slug  :devil

Some time I still hunt with a 22 but mostly I use a browning 12 gauge automatic with a modified choke and sometimes full choke(it's an adjustable choke).Making squirrel stew tomorrow evening.
How does every oen else cook theirs?

If I wanted to limit out on squirrels in my yard I could do that with a BB gun, in our woods they're hunted too much so you hardly ever see them come out.

Glad I made your day, but you can keep your smart-*** comments to yourself.

ohhhhh boy.... I use my trusty ruger 10/22. Carbon barrel, synthetic stock with built in bi-pod, 3 clips, polished internals, its pimpin. Puts 10 shots in a 2" group at 300 yards easily. It was cold that day, so i was shivering a bit....lol.

1960 Winchester Model 88 in .243 w/ Bushnell "scopechief IV".. anybody remember the "command post" scopes? LOL..

finally had to break down and re-stock the gun this fall (old stock cracked).. It'll hold 2" @ 300yds.. on a bad day :D

they don't make 'em like the used to..

Rifle season starts Saturday, time to put her back in action..

Not too many folks here hunt squirrels. We hunt rock chucks from time to time over in the desert. For that I use an SKS, or .243 winchester. I just like to see them come apart.
The guy who loads for me goes to wyoming every year to shoot prarie dogs. They make a video and every thing. now those things get tore up when hit with a high power varmit gun.:huh :devil

We use frog gigs(looks like a little pitch fork) or a spring loaded clamp to go frog hunting with. Frog legs are good too.:D

Use an AR and you don't have to pull the legs off yourself:D We need a EXriders party in a barn! Leo, see if you can't line up AC/DC to play and enough frog legs an tree rat to go around:D

Coon is too tough, no offense to anybody but people say if you let a black woman cook a coon that they are good(i guess they know how to cook them right), never had possum.

You would be supprised what you can do with a .22. Granted, it was a paced off 300 yards, but it was pretty close. My barrel is .920" OD. Full floating. I had just sighted in the scope. I have too much money into this gun, it was before I got the 400ex. I'll try to find some pics.

Man, now I wanna pop a couple of squirells outside my house. I've never eaten one, or killed one for that matter, but we gots some bigguns around here. They're fairly tame also as they get fed around here, hehehe. Are there certain ones that are better than others? We have grey squirrels around here. So do ya skin'em and gut'em like a rabbit? What about some recipes y'all? Maybe I'll just look them up on the net. Maybe I'll surprise my woman with some "tree rat stew".

To skin them, cut about a 2" slit across the back and shuck the hide back and cut it under the belly, get a friend to hold one end an dyou pull the otehr and both just turn the hide inside out so you don't get hair on the meat pull the hide all the way to the joint above the footthen cut them off and the tail. Turnit over and cut it str8 up, and break the sternum and gut it. To cook it let it soak in a pot of salted water in the fridge for a day, then make a batter and fry it(cut into pieces) get a crock-pot and put the fried meat in the crock pot with water, make your brown gravy by browning flour with a little bit of water, put the gravyin the crock-pot and let sit on low-med. for about 4 hours or so depending on how tender you like it.

Me and a friend went huntin about a week ago. We were using an older Ruger 10/22, if I ever get a 22 this is what Im gettin. My dad has dropped it in water and everything and it still shoots perfect. We got two. A few days ago while deer huntin a squirrel came up about 20 yards. I shot it right in the back of the head with my bow and broadhead. The best way to cook squirrel is to grill it.

I have a Winchester 22 that is a pretty good gun but I have been leaning towards the Henry leveraction 22.
