haha this should end my new thread fury... asking everything in one thread never seems to work for me.

what is the biggest bold in kit for a 400ex motor? 500, 508, 460, 483? I have a 440 in it now, and sold a roller to a friend, and am now left with the motor and all electrics to play with.

what has proven to be the most reliable? I searched this, and have found the 483 pushing 51 hp thread and such, but am curious as to what is the most reliable of the stroker/big bores???

I run the 460 in mine its a 89mm piston with a 74mm stroke. I does 53HP thats with a Hotcams stage 2, +1mm valves, HD valve springs, HD head studs, port & polish, decked cylinder head, 42mm 450R carb, K&N filter, Sparks X6.

that is what i was looking for. we have pretty similar intake and exhaust mods, what did the parts cost for you to put that together? how did you compensate for the longer stroke with the cylinder, and how did the timing chain work?

was the decked head to make up for a cylinder height adjustment because of the stroke? what is your compression ratio?

are there full 460 kits on the market?

I would probably assume bigger then that would sacrifice long term reliability.

FST makes a 500 BB stroker

GT Thunder 452 Stroker. Tough motor with wicked horsepower. With all mods I am thinking it is around 50hp

didn't know gt thunder made that kit. don't mean to be ignorant, but is fst four stroke tech?

either the gt thunder, or the 460 kits sound good, the 500 just seems too far for a 400 based motor, i think it would be a time bomb. i would like the motor, but at that point i would just look at the xr650 conversion.

fst=4 stroke tech. They claim the 500 kit is safe as a 440 kit. It pumps out 48-52 hp I here.

that doesn't seem much more then the GT Thunder 452, course with different dynos out there and what not, and whatever mods there are to the heads, and intakes, and things on the claimed motors.... that 500 kit seems like a bargain though, on their website it was only $800 with my crank as core.

not bad really.

There are some added mods to the motor other than what GT offers in the basic kit.
Custom JE 12.5:1 piston, 416 bore +7mm stroked and hardwelded crank, HD rod, Hotcam Stage 2, C&D Full Race port and polish, Rocky Ridge Lightened flywheel. Sparks key. Breathing through a K&N, HMF Full Sport and a 450R Carb.
That price is just for the kit, no telling what charges labor will be.
There is insane torque with my setup, and is an impressive trail quad, and is proven reliable.

Franky G, did that set up come with the cylinder sleeve?
Was it worth all the coin and work?
I'm going to purchase this set up for a winter project if I find some good input.

not bad price wise. let me know as well if it comes with the sleeve.... how muchdid you pay for your setup parts wise?

thanks

eliasxr400, the the sleeve is not included but you only need a big bore sleeve for a 89mm piston. for power its great torque is unreal more power then any stock 450 bike and many modded ones. its very dependable if you use a HD timing chain + HD head studs. the rod is twice the size of the stock one so it wont break like the stock one would in a high compression 440.

Just to show the power of a 460 heres me racing my friends 450R with a 510 stroker he won by half a quad length so a 460 runs good !! and I went of the line in 3rd gear dead stop and the front came up no lack of power !

can't argue with the video for sure... crazy. how much do those sleeves cost? I bought my quads with their motors already done.

this sounds more and more appealing the more i look into it.

FRANKY G:

Did you install the kit yourself?

codeman583, a big bore sleeve is around $100 you can get those from any local dealers. yes I installed the kit my self its not that hard if you have mechanical ability's it takes about 4H to put the full thing together. if you plan on doing it your self get a shop manual that will help you allot !

is it as hard as it seems? I just went through my clutches, and replaced my timing chains, and pulled the cylinder off and put new gaskets all the way through. do you think the bottom end is anymore difficult then this?

do the gear sets stay pretty much intact when doing this, or do you need to know how to go through this properly? does the shop manual give a full breakdown?

4 hours just in the motor? or 4 hours including removing the motor?

i'll admit pulling the topend and putting in a new timing chain and things was much easier then I expected. parts in these motors, are nice and big, so it doesn't take much to remember where things go.

Franky G,
what is your compression ratio? do you run 10.5:1 like the hotrods kit you linked in this thread or did you have them bump it up?
