Just wondering what some of you think I should run for jets on my 440 ex. It's gotta whitebros e series slip on, airbox lid will be off, stage 2 cam if it matters (dont think it does). Also what about the fuel screw where should that be set at. I know everyones different and Ill have to fine tune but I just wanted a ballpark figure to start at.

Also when I snap the throttle to full throttle it black smokes for a second, im guessing this means to much fuel..does it?

Thanks guys.

The black smoke is from the accelarator pump this is normal. As for jetting if you are running a stock carb and are between500to 2000 feet, try a 170 main 45 pilot and 2.5 turns out on the fuel screw

Thanks a lot I will try this.

Whats the stock pilot in a 400ex, 45??

Im not sure also where should I put the clip on the jet? I have been around motors practically my whole life but Im not an expert at jetting. (and just bought this bike about 3 weeks ago)

Also I forgot that I have removed the choke, not that its a big enough difference to change the jets.

Does someone have a picture or can describe where the fuel screw is. Is it the flat head next to the idle ajustment thumb screw or something else?? I dont want to screw up another setting haha.

Also,
I took the choke out and now the 440's running a bit lean for the jets that are in there.

So you think 45 pilot and 170 main, what do you think the jets should be with the airbox lid on, 42 and 160-165 maybe?? is the benefit that much better with the cover off, or should I just play it on the safe side and leave it on. I would need to purchase an outerwear filter as well obiously to keep all the crap from gettin through the filter.

Allright guys I put in a 270 Main and a 45 Pilot and its running awsome. The pilot does seem a bit rich (rich bog when you punch the throttle) but overall the setup seems good. My question is right now i have a stock filter with no metal insert, I have a uni filter which I have coming, will the UNI filter allow more air through thus making a 45 pilot jet not too lean? Or is it about the same airflow.

-the airbox lid is off

-choke removed

-440 bb kit

Thanks

Edit: I ajusted the fuel screw and now its running awsome, I think the new sound of having no airbox lid was throwing off my tuning as well haha. Gotta go by the plug color. Thanks for everything guys I appreciate all the help.
