I am currently restoring a buddies LT250R while he is overseas fighting the good fight. Ok, heres' the problem. I can't seem to get any top speed. The motor is BRAND NEW (broke in already though). It has stock gearing. The clutch is working good. I know this because when i punch it in 1st, it throws about a 25-30 ft roost. Could the fresh motor (with way high comp....lots o' power) be too much for those tires? Last time i rode it, i was on a gravel. 5th gear pinned only felt like 60 ish MPH. But, it felt like the rear end was gonna slip oout from beneith me. I know it was gravel, but my 400 doesn't give the same feeling. Do the XC's just suck that bad for the high HP motor? Any thoughts?

this is probably a loaded question, but would a pair of razors work any better? or, how bout a par of ex tires?

im not sure...my friend had a pair oif xc's and a pair of razrs and he said he'd never go back to any other tire but a razr...but i think xc hook up nice but you are also running a "2 smoke" which i have no idea how they work...my friend had them on his 400

Its just the combo of the gravel and the R. XC's are one of the best hooking tires on the market!

i like the razrs better than the shots. id try some stock 400ex rears or some z400-raptor rears and if the 400ex tires dont hook up enough for ya try some paddles.

Anything with alot of horsepower will do that on gravel, take it on asphalt and see how it feels.

well, it wan't just on gravel. I had it out on the trail. An when i opened it up, it just didn't seem to have any speed. I don't actually know the speed specs on the LT, but i thought someone said it was up near 70. As far as i can tell, it still has stock gearing. The LT did come with 20 in. rear tires correst?!

It has incredibably strong lowend. It'll spinn the tires through 3rd and into 4th...so i know the power is there. I just don't understand

My cousin had the trail claw 2's on his 250R and he liked them very well, they are very similar 2 the 400EX OEM tires!:D

do you feel power then all of a sudden the motor just revs? cause thats what my r is doing right now cause the clutch is not adjusted right(dont worry im not gonna ride until i get it fixed) but i felt like i was only topping out at about 45-55 cause of it.
