I was told valve lash adjustment should be done with engine warmed up. Is there any truth to that?

Absolutely not. The engine should be cold (below 95* F) when doing a valve check/adjust.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I had adjusted the valve lash on my stock EX to honda spec due to excessive noise. .004 intake and .005 exhaust. Now I have a single loud tick. Someone told me it was because I had adjusted the valves cold and once they warmed up would be out of tolerance. Any idea what the loud tick could be. I adjusted at TDC, checked by verifying rocker arms having play on all four valves.
