extended swingarm

How will a 1-2" extended swingarm affect my handling with 400ex a-arms and shocks up front and 2" spacers out back. also, will i need a special rear shock?

with the longer swingarm u will need a longer shock... unless you order the swingarm with the shock mount in the stock place... some people do that....
i would say go with a new shock swingarma nd bearing carrier and you wont have to worry about it

well if length's all that matters then i'll just add the extention in past the shock mount, since i'm doing it myself (God i love having my own full service welding shop:D )

ad 4 inches i suppose... you probably be better off having a welding shop do it for you or buy one. I would think you'd need a stiffer shock with all that leverage:huh

How much do you charge to extend a swing arm 2+ inches on a 300 ex? I have been thinking about this idea. I also need a good welder.

well i've never done it before but looking at mine it doesn't look that hard... i'll do mine and if i get right i could do yours, if it's not real hard to do. i normally charge 50 bucks and hour + materials (shouldn't be any) and i fugure after i do mine and know how to do it it will probably take 2hrs after cleaning up the welds and all. want it painted, i can do that too

I dont know of that many comanys that change the shock mount on a +1 or +2 swingarm. U would need to get your shock re-worked due to the extra leverage like differant valves and springs. It would bottom Very easy. I just put a Janssen Racing swingarm on mine, +1 1/4 and i LOVE IT! I also put a new Axis long travel back shock on. But they dont touch the shock mount on the swingarm, u have to move the one on your frame. Janssens go for about 5-550 and its WELL worth the money. Call and tell them that Chad WIllman sent you. THe only bad thing, is it makes it hard to wheelie. U can make the front end light to get over stuff, but its def. harder to lift it out to get over a big log.

I sent my swingarm to Mac Racing and they charged me $125 to extend it +2!! Very Very good job, clean welds and so far it holds up great!! they extend more swingarms than just about anybodyu else and that why I sent it to them, it crucial for the swingarm to be perfectly strait(or you will throw your chain) and they done an awesome job!! I highly recommend them!! But even with a +2 on my bike its impossible to keep the front end down in ANY gear!!! I wish I would have went +4!!

Chad is right, it's not something that you just "wingit". It needs to be as close to perfection as possible. A little off and you will be "dog tracking", your shock linkage will bind as well as your drive train will have major problems as Chad mentioned.

To make sure it comes out correctly, it would need to be jig welded. All of the high quality ones I have seen are TIG welded and not MIG welded also. It's the heart of your rear end and takes phenomenal stresses. Personally, I would bite the bullet and spend the extra money and leave it to the pros to build them.

generally i'm pretty leary towards making anything on my quad (spacers for example) because it has to be fairly tight tolerances. However a swingarm is pretty cut and dry. built a jig, cut it, add the extension, weld it clean it and paint it.... getting it perfectly strait shouldn't be too hard.

i'd believe what chad said, there is alot of stress on the back end of your quad. i've seen more welded swingarms break than not. it would be fine if your just drag racing but any jumps or bumps and you'll be in trouble.
