Stupid easy question, but im havin trouble

hey im new to the forums, but for 1 month been a guest reading, nice site and forum, helped me tons so far.

I have a easy fix prolly, i have a 1999 400ex, it had a tether on it but didnt work, i got a new one, but can't get it to work....can someone PLEASE describe easiest possible way to hook it up with wire colors to where etc? good ground spot? easiet way to get it workin for TT would be awesome, thanks!

so my old tether was hooked up to the kill switch wire what leads to the box your stating, but the wire is green with a yellow stripe, i tried that and grounded right to the fender mount, but had the tether sitting on my bike not in the bar mount holder, but both wires hooked up, still nothing, tether i bought brand new, (arctic cat name brand yeah pretty lame but it's all any shop within a 50 mile radius had in stock :( :() and the old one that came with it (parts unlimited) neither work and im getting mad now, i need it by race day Saturday!! im going to have to bring it to the shop at this rate and spend 50 for it to be installed, is maybe my brand the problem? but why doesn't the original tether work??
