Does the rear motor mount vary from year to year? I have a 88 style swingarm on my 250R and the rear motor mount does not mount in the same place it would on a 1986 which is the year model frame I have. Does anyone have any pics of the two so I could see the difference? or could someone explain the difference if there is one? Thanks yall.

'86-'87 swingarms had a the gap in the middle where the bearings go. There was then a bracket that went in between the bearings that had an engine mount for the upper and lower of the rear of the engine.

The '88-'89 frames had brackets on the frame for the rear engine mounts and have the swingarm without the gap.

I would recommend getting some tabs for your engine welded to your frame if you intend to keep on running the '88-'89 swingarm.

Also make sure you're running a headstay if you're running that set up, because the engine could twist and it will break your cases..

It happened to me when I had a stock '86 frame when running the '89 style swingarm.

thats the rear motor mount i have now. Im thinking about buying a 88-89 frame instead of welding on to this one.

the 88/89 rear mount mod to a 86/87 frame is easily done. infact there is a second set of mounts that can be added in the dong bone area of the frame aswell.

Some guys have had great luck just using only the upper rear mount that comes on the 88/89 frames. If just trail riding I'd say you should be fine as long as your using a good set of shocks to absorb the abuse. If jumping and thumping is your thing than get tabs welded.

One thing you'll run into also will be the peg mounts. 88/89 I believe have ears that the pegs hinge on. 86/87 had bolt on pegs. In case your running pro pegs.

86 is more sought after for strength. 89 is sought after for geometry of front end. The front of the late model years curved upward more at the a-arm mount on the bottom rail creating more caster ( I could be wrong but I think it helped in bump steer also )

Only differences in frame are the rear motor mount, peg, front end geometry.

so an 86 motor will not fit in a 88 frame without mods?

thanks everyone! I think ill just get some tabs welded on the frame. The extra motor support should be good enough

correct!! even if ya elect to only weld the ones at the lower dog bone area of the frame. :)
