Yeah. Just make sure U use a LITTLE bit of clear at a time. Two thin coats is better than one thick one.

does it affect the shinyness of it much?

not enough to worry about it on most parts.

on some parts...it may dull it a touch. what i noticed is that with the powdercoated clear parts...it amplified any imperfection in the part. but all in all...i was satisfied with the out come. i had 1 case on my counter and the wife yelled at me to get that wet thing off her counter:eek: that kinda made feel like i had done a good job:D

i am actually in the middle of painting my frame now, i'm doing it myself, my friend owns, a body shop, he had some lexus metallic silver already mixed and gave it to me, and he gave me lexus metallic charcoal which i am going to do the a arms with, what do u think, how will it look, how will it hold up, since i know u are experienced with this kinda stuff

he also told me not 2 hit it with 2 many coats of clear, because it will chip easier

i have seen painted frames and some are badass. as far as durability.....it all depends on the quality of the paint job and the conditions in which you ride. powdercoating is not the end all to be all....its just another type of coating. i would recomend the a arms and swing to be powdercoated ....along with shifter and brake pedals( high wear items etc) then....paint the frame to your liking. i would stay away from a spray can paint job tho.....they never seem to look even close to other coating methods.

as far as the clear....i dont know about it chipping etc....but if your friend has expierence in that field...i would listen to him. i know applying a clear coat to powder will increase it durability like nobody business...lol

hey 400ex127,

How do you think it would look if you polished a wheel and powdered it clear with red metal flakes? You think it would work? I was gonna try it once I start to get things figured out.

i reckon it would look ok...but the red flake and other prizm types really need a dark color as a base so you can see them.

hey iceman, yesterday i just dropped off my new wheels for my sandrail to get clear coated. they where douglas billet beadlocks at 290 each and in march i had a polished fuel tank clear coated and it looks great. i have spilled fuel on it , when i got home just wiped off and it looks like new again. if you wand it to shine like new for many years to come with mimium effort coat it. 400ex127 just wondering if laquer on smaller parts works better than enamel because last winter i polished 2 parts and used laquer on one and enamel on the other to see wich worked better and cant remember which side is which now?

i liek enamel better ...but its harder for people to buy at the local parts store.
