I use a 13 tooth but I run 22 inch tires so thats why I did it.Works out great with that combo.

I RUN A 13 FRONT AND 39 REAR WITH STOCK 20's ON MY 400EX.I LOVE THE TORQ IT GIVES ME.IT WILL WALK UP ALMOST ANY HILL.IV'E MADE IT UP ALL THE TREE SHOTS AT COOS BAY,OR WITH 8 PADDLE HUALERS.THE NICE THING ABOUT THIS SETUP IS THAT I CAN START OFF IN SECOND GEAR SO IF I DO START TO LOSE POWER I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FIRST GEAR TO FALL BACK ON.
MY BUDDIES ON Z400's WERE PISSED WHEN I MADE ALL THE HILLS AND THEY DIDN'T BUT THEY WOULD SMOKE ME IN A DRAG RACE AT TOP SPEED.I WOULD KILL THEM FROM 1ST THROUGH 3RD BUT BY THE TIME 5H CAME AROUND THEY WERE PASSING ME.SO ANY IF YOU WANT TORQ DO IT BUT YOULL LOSE YOUR TOP SPEED.HOPE THIS HELPS

I just put one on the 416 and I'm not really impressed.

Seems it just moved everything down a gear, what I did in 2nd before, I can do in 3rd now but not really any faster.

1st and 2nd are next to useless because you CAN NOT keep the front down if you're on it.

I did line up with my buddies warrior and where I would pull him 1 1/2 bike lengths before, I just walked away hard core, like 5 lengths. So I guess it helped there, coming out of the hole.

The bike has 22's right now, and it had a 15 in the front.
I'm thinking about going to a 14 and see how I like that, I know it's wound out in 5th way too early, probably cut the top speed to 55 or less.

I'm gonna keep the 13 handy for the sand in case I need some more grunt, but I think the 14 will be perfect.

I put 13 on with stock weels and rear sprocket. Feels like I went down a geer. Bought a 14 and all is well. Great power, pull front end up in first three gears.
