Shock Springs

I am wanting change the stock springs to some a little stiffer and was wondering how hard this is. Is changing springs something I can do myself or would it be best to take them to a shop?

You can just turn down the compression, that would be the little brass fitting on the top part of the shock. Why would you want to go any softer anyways? If you start changing springs, yuo will need to have it valved differently as well.

I weigh about 100 pounds more than the guy I bought the ATV from. He did some local racing and weighed about 145. I won't be doing anything like that but as I get better at riding would like to try the jumps at the MX tracks. Would the shocks be OK if I adjust the preload and damping?
