I own a yellow 2001 400ex and was wanting to paint the frame. What kind of paint should I use. I would also like to know what color would look the best. If you could post some pictures, I'd appreciate it.

I powdercoated mine black.. I'm very happy with it so far..

You can paint them, but don't expect it to be super durable..

(red also looks very sharp on a yellow 400)...

My frame is also powdercoated gloss black. I have red plastic however. I am very happy with the powdercoating. It seems durable but its not indestructible.

Most people that go the painting route have had good luck with industrial paints meant for tractors and other heavy equipment. Others use some sort of enamel paint. If you are going to paint just make sure to do it right by priming and sanding. Applying clear coats would help also. Most important thing is to take your time.

Also think about having your frame gusseted while it is torn down. The 400ex frame is not known to be very strong.

A really good but expensive paint is por-15. http://www.por15.com/

Leo, you have to get some updated pictures. You have new tires now right? Some razr's on carbon beadlocks would make that bike complete.

I would Powdercoat the frame if ya want it to last. I would go with a Red Frame and Red Top A arms with Black Swing Arm and Black Bottom A arm. THat is what i am doing this winter adn it gonan looks sweet. Black Swing Arms look Trick. Anyone have a pictures?

i think powdercoating a frame, shimmering candy blue with black or maybe orange plastics would look really good. Kinda like old#7's but shimmering candy blue. that just sounds sick too me. JMO
