just wondering witch cam to put in my quad ???
01 400ex, pro circuit slip on, timing advance key, rev box, the rest is dress up or suspension. eventually gonna change carbs and i run 18'' wheels. my problem is it could use more mid to top end power, seems to have more then enough low end and i'm running 16/36 gears so i don't have any options with gears left.
i've just pulled my head off to lap the valves and thought good time to change cams. so what do you think is the better cam to put in her ? i'd like to stay away from starting issues. and if you could explain why ones better then the other.

thanks

Everyone says if you want more top end to put in a stage 2.

i have a stage 2 hotcams in my 416ex it has a lot of mid to top end power, so i would suggest a stage 2 hotcam

I'm in Oklahoma now and this winter I had tons of starting problems due to the cold weather, I put a 42 pilot in and totally eliminated them so keep this in mind.

The stage two offers more top end than the stage one, so that's probably the one you want. Other than that they both use the stock valve springs and rockers and are simple to install. So one isn't really better than the other one, it just depends on what you're looking for.

I have ran both on my 10:1 416

I just installed the stage 2 today and rode it.

stage 1 gives you monster bottom end.

stage 2 gives you about the same as stock on bottom, but will rev and pull like crazy from mid to the rev box.

I mostly run hair scrambles here in ohio, and still went to the stage 2 just so it would pull each gear a little more.

the stage 2 I think makes them kinda run like the z400's (we have on of them too) still have a little more bottom over the z, but it revs about as fast now.

just my .02

if your motor is stock i don't think it will do any good to put in a stage 2, because the stage 2 gives more mid to top and without a bigger bore and higher compression piston your gonna lose your bottom end. so if your not touching the piston then i'd say go with the stage 1 and toss a hd cam chain in there too.

y Are you comparing a 400ex to a dirt bike first off?

Put in a high comp 11:1 406 piston and it will really make a huge difference.
