Im wondering how these to compare because my buddy has a 06 Z 400 and i find it to be nearly powerless also which one is more stable

a z feels powerless to you having a 250ex...am i missing something?

a z400 has more "power" than a 400ex stock vs. stock

i rode the thing it felt absolutly powerless like it had much less torque and thrust, ive ridden a few predators with the pure polaris pipes on em now theyve got power

the z400=faster, super tippy
the 400ex=slower, more stable

why is the Z super tippy? like less stable then a rappy 350 or 250ex/z250

good point ruby soho

the z400 is a very respectable atv, and up until the ltr it was suzuki's fastest race quad.(still manufactured)

the 400ex hasnt changed motor for 8 years other than adding reverse, tons of aftermarket for the honda.

compaired to the 250ex (lid on or off) both the 400's would feel like rockets.

my Z was 100x more tippy then my friends 400ex.. there the same width mine just sat higher. we had stock tires on, so they where the same size. they both had stock suspention... although his full sparks/rejetted with proflow was alot slower then mine.. and all i had was a slip on and rejetted. i like the 400ex more. throw on some works shocks and a sparks pipe and your set imo

all im saying is when i took the thing for a spin i was very surprised with what little power it seemed to have. what feels faster to ride and accelrate the 400ex or z400?

z400.
something must be wrong with his unless your not used to a quad with smooth power.. becouse i could "somewhat" i guess u could say, keep up with 450s on my Z

The Z 400 is junk. It feels way too tippy, and the suspension, steering, and foot controls are all wrong.

The Z may be a little faster but the EX can hang or take it with a few 100 in mods.

and then put that same few 100 in mods on the Z and it will kill the EX again... and the Z isnt junk. im not saying this becouse i had one either. i like the 400ex way more, always have. the Z is fast, and has a way better engine then the EX (no offense anyone) and my Z was beat but it always ran.. belive me its not junk

The z400 is not tipsy... theres not much of a difference between a 400ex and z400 feeling tipsy.

the z400 has alittle more power than the 400ex stock, and alittle better handling. the EX has an easier to maintain motor but responds very well to mods

I have ridden the Z quite a bit, it is tippy in my opinion.

then the perfect quad for you would be a yfz..

dont worry, your not the only one. i would lean soo much my ***** would be on my peg and id still feel tippy on a turn. my 450 bone stock felt like it was 50in wide compared to my Z..

I agree YFZ handling is night and day better than a stock Z.

The EX isn't too bad in the handling department either.

That frickin Z scared me to death though, and I don't scare easy LOL.

I definitely feel like I can go double the speed on the same terrain with a YFZ or EX, compared to the Z

mx have you happend to ride both a yfz and a predator with a pure polaris pipe if so can you tell me what felt faster and what is faster

mx1791

it would be hard to say. only becouse the pred and the yfz have nothing in common really. the yfz is faster, yfz's are really fast. i must say though, i like the suspension on the yfz, but predators handles really well

yeh those predators do handle amazingly good

z 400 keep up with the 450's ?

NOT EVEN "SOMEWHAT"

the z 400 is faster than the 400ex but vs the 450 ?
it would be like racing the 250ex vs the 400ex (not close)

I think of course stock the Z wouldnt really have anything on it. But with the money you...'saved'...buying a Z over a 450 it could be made to be very competitive to one.

Then again, there's always the argument that you could jsut mod the 450 to be better... anyway.

Back to the main topic, i think the Z400 would be a better buy than a 400EX. It's a newer design motor that responds better to mods than the 400EX does. I haven't owned a Z but i do have a 400EX and would trade it for one any day...

If i had a certain amount of money, and were going to dump it all in either a 400EX or a Z400, i'd do the Z400 all the way. I personally think the 400EX motor responds terribly to mods compared to the Z400.

But everyone has their own opinion. Just ride both and decide which one you like.

on a track i kept up just fine with my friends with 450's.. i was just in a higher gear for everything.. its not like we where drag racing or something. the only time i couldnt keep up was holeshot

My freind has a Z with a filter, r4 pipe, and jetted. Also a tooth down on front sprocket.

I have a Ex with r4 pipe, filter, jetted, tooth down and a stage 1 cam.

So identical mods, except I have a cam.

When I race him ill get a video. It should be close. But my ex will out handle him any day of the week...

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiggggghhhhhhtttttttttttt

the 450 would pull you on hole shot and out of every corner and have the ability to take doubles/tripples that the 400 just cant clear.

maybe you ride better than your friend

I have a 400ex also with r4/jetted/k&n etc.
im not being bias just the facts.

My friends z400 is junk. it has blown up once, head gaskets have went, he cant keep the elttrical working, has to bump start it. And when he flips it it ****s the plastic, my 400 you flip back over and go no problem

I never mentioned a 450 in my post?

But on the track, at a race for fun level, the 400 stands its ground really well. You can only go so fast from 0-30, no matter how much power you have. straits are where the 450s run away...

I was talking to mx1791

but 0-30.....................
if the 450 gains a length or two each time you hit the gas, your going to be 20 lengths behind (each lap)

we can post this in another thread, sorry for messing up the topic.
