I know Max Power sells their 480 kit for $575 with a anti friction coated piston and gaskets. A 480 kit won't add much peak hp with out other mods but will add torque and power through out the rpm range that wil make it accelerate better for sure.

i have heard on here that a 470 kit is much more reliable than a 480 kit. just my .02:D

You never said what year your R is. In the 04-05's the 480's 97mm bore is plenty reliable. For the 06-07's 470, 98mm, is about all you wnat to overbore the stock cylinder. Beyond that you'll need an Ice Cube cylinder to maintain reliability.

Good info.

I believe the guy is referring to several companies that are offering a 04/05 480 kit using the stock cylinder. They have cylinders already in stock and just do an exchange. ESR is one that I know of, although Max Power can bore/plate your stock cylinder too. Actually, there's about 5 different companies that can do this right off the top of my head.

The biggest difference between them is the piston used in the kit. If I were goig to suggest a piston... Buy a kit that comes with a CP piston.

My Max Power 488 kit uses the 100mm CP designed for the CRF450(490). Single ring, lateral gas ports, coated and longer skirt, dual forced pin oilers... All the good stuff!

Do you have one, or have you seen a dyno of one?

I called NMotion when investigating my current build and was not impressed with their knowledge or suggestions. They told me that I HAD to run +1/+2 valves and the Web Mysto (major radical) cam, in addition to their 12:1 piston in a 3 ring design.

It's like they just picked all the biggest crap they could find and said "use this"...
