this e mail is going around at work places: NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Body: Don't pump gas on may 15th
Body: ...in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Thought it was kinda interesting.

Survey last year said most Americans will not change driving habits until gas is above $5 per gallon...basically means everyone would keep consuming at the same rate...the only thing that would change is you would cut other spending. You might save a little gas because you aren't going to go out to eat afterall because your food budget got cut some.

In 300 years, cockroaches will be reading in their history books how man went extinct a million years after the dinosaur when all the oil and coal ran out. ;)

You guys are retarded. As stated it will accomplish nothing. You wanna know how? America is also fat. Lets solve obesity in one day too. On May 15th, don't eat anything. Sure, youll eat twice as much the day before and the day after, but I am sure we will stamp out obesity by dong this for one day!

The ONLY way to decrease the cost is to LOWER the demand. That means a change in the way you live. Walking 2 neighborhoods over to see a friend instead of driving. Carpooling with a coworker to work, taking the bus to school. Don't be an idiot and keep spreading that email.

I received an email kind of like this only different. what this new line of thinking was boycott 1 brand (mobile, exxon, etc.) which would result in a price war. if mobile wasn't selling fuel, they would lower their price to attract the customers. the problem was the lack of foresight to actually put a name on the list to boycott. i don't foresee anyone actually organizing this boycott in the near future.

OPEC controls fuel prices. recent studies show there is ample amounts of oil for consumption;however, OPEC regulates the supply. they cut back on production and prices go up. there was actually a surplus this past year because of the 'mild winter' (therego less crude being used for heat) so the prices dropped. OPEC cut back production so the demand went up with... you guessed it...prices at the pump. i don't think you're going to meet the wizard behind the curtain with 1 day of petroleum fasting. besides.....if i knew i wasn't going to buy gas the next day, i'd make sure i had enough to last me.....

for those of you not familiar with OPEC, google it. what are the chances of the organization having a hand in more than one supplier of crude?

"OPEC’s mission is to coordinate & unify the petroleum policies of Member Countries & ensure the stabilization of oil prices in order to secure an efficient, economic & regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers & a fair return on capital to those investing in the petroleum industry. "

.02 and something to chew on.

That is a better idea, however it still won't work because american's won't stick to a plan. Here is exactly what would happen:

Gas everywhere - $3.19
Gas at the place that was boycotted - 3.17

Everyone sacrifices the plan and saves 60 cents when filling up.

Gas the next day - 3.19

exact same thing i've been telling anyone who sends me those stupid forwards about the may 15th gas thing.

its going to do nothing to the oil companies... they just wont have to make so many shipments that day or the day after... it'l just hurt stores for that day.

I laugh every time someone says that the oil chains make a killing off of gas. The Fed/State/Local Gov't makes close to TWICE the amount the oil/gas companies do after operating costs. Gross amount of money made(The figure you see in the papers that people complain about) does not equal actual profit, you have all the costs associated with getting the finished product to the pump, along with maintenance of facilities and personnel to run them. If you want to be mad at someone about prices, be mad at OPEC. They turn the valves closed when there's a surplus so the prices will stay artifically high.

The easiest way to lower the price is reduce consumption, adding caps and other things will not make our situation any better. Let capitalism work, because caps and limits are a completely socialist idea. Necessity is the mother of invention. Besides, I think the Gov't already has their grubby little hands into too many aspects of our lives already.

only way i think to beat the gas prices is to just get a car that gets 35+ MPG and drive it easy. Ride motorcycles, take subways, carpool etc. Gas prices are here to stay. It will never go under 1 dollar a gallon again (atleast not in America)
