Ok guys, been waitin a long time and I finnaly got the motor Sat and had this thing just about completely done on Sun. I still have the graphics and stickers and some cleaning that needs to be done but thought Id shoot a few with the cheap camera to show you what it looks like, this is right as I was loading it up to take it home from a friends house!! OK OK your saying how does it run???? Well, it runs like a scolded ***** dog!!!!!! It pulls so hard its impossible to even describe!!!! Going From a 416 to a 505 is like going from a 250EX to a 400EX!!!! Crazy fast!!! Tom has the Lectron just a little too fat but We will fix that today!! Damned thing sounds like a Harley on crack!!!!

When my wife gets back in the office Im going to go out and finish putting the graphics\stickers on it and finish up a few other things then I will take some pics with a good camera and get them on here!!!

Everything sounds good so far,,but please do me a favor next time,,accidentally leave your POS digi cam on the trailer near the back were a small bump might toss it off...:D

As soon as you get out to drag some people you are deff. gonna let everyone in on how much you owned some of those Yammmmiha Craptors. Get some pics of you cross the line like 20 bike lenghts in front of one. I will put it on my desk top.

Ill get some better pics pretty soon! Tom told me he would set up the carb to be borderlining on running rich, he called me at 10:30 pm last night(coulndt believe he was working that late) to ask me how it was running, I told him it has a little hesitation at fist blip of the throttle, and he said, I bet it runs great when first started but doesnt want to idle god after it gets hot, he is exactly right, he said all I have to do is turn the needle 1/4 turn and it should be just right,,When Im saying it runs like he!! you have to figure im only giving it 50% throttle,,,and with the throttle housing not grinded yet it only opens up 70% when at full throttle, so Im figuring im getting 35% throttle!!!! This thing is nuts!!! Cant wait to fix the needle, grind the throttle housing and let her rip!!! In 5th gear going about 40mph I just blip the throttle and the front end comes off the ground!!!! I will be leaving for Little Sahara on Thur so Im sure Ill do a little playing around on the sand drag strip up there!!

Sweet job Chad,but do what Rico said, accidentally leave that Digi camera on the rear of the trailer, so it might just happen to fall off :) Looks like its gonna be a rocket man.

Will this be OK,,,,Ill take the digital camera and my good camera, I will take pics with both, that way I can post a few pics as soon as I get back, instead of having to wait for the good pics to develop to post them!! Just like I did here, if I had to wait for the good pics to develop it would be another day or three before I could show any pics!!:) Maybe at Little Sahara Ill offer to let someone ride the 505 in exchange for a good digital camera:D

Was it worth the wait?? ABSOLUTELY Honestly its faster than I even though it would be!!! I got the Lectron tuned and its running awesome now!! it started raining real hard so I didnt get to do a whole lot of riding and do my finishing touches but they will be done by tommorrow for sure!!! I will have you guys some better pics then!!!

Nice EX Chad, now if I could only get a 400.... and a Digi camera to take some pic's with..... I am going to get a cheap digi cam just so I can take pictures when ever... I dont want to pay to get a crappy regular cam and have to get photo's developed...

I rode the fire out of it yesterday and to my surprise it doesnt run hot at all!!! Everytime I get on it it seems to pull harder!!!

After a trip to Little Sahara i have bad news!! My first race was against a Suzuki Z400 with a Yoshimura 450 kit in it,,,,I left him out of the hole and beat him by about 8-10 bike lengths!!! The next race was against a Banshee(Slightly modified) and I beat him pretty easy too!! After a few races im thinking,,,there is noone here thats going to be able to beat this thing,,,then that Z400 pulled up beside me again, this time I left him in the hole but come 4th gear he zipped past me,,,, Im thinking whats going on!! By the 3rd run against him Im hearing a loud tapping noise in the motor and I couldnt even pull 1st gear off the line:( Well after talking Tom Carlson on the phone, and my mechanic who was at the races, I found out its critical to break in a huge stroker motor for longer than about 10 minutes before getting on the drag strip wide open!! needless to say were pretty sure that I bent some valves!! Im getting rid of the Lectron and putting a 41mm FCR on alcohol this week, and having the valves fixed!! Im glad I had a back up to ride at Little Sahara!

Not good enough!! I actually didnt even run a half a tank of gas through it before I took off!! It gets boring riding circles in my yard, so i figured I would break it in when i got there, but first thing I had guys calling me out!!!

Why ya swictchin to the FCR?

I feel for ya man, i had something similiar happen but it tore my topend all to crap, but it was after 100 or so hrs of riding. If you did float a valve, seems to me it shouldnt have happend, I thought Tom put stiffer valve springs in his motors?

I dont think it should have happened either and neither does Tom, but looking at my reciept from TC it looks like he doesnt put stiffer valve spring in it?? Ill call him in a bit and ask him, ill probably take the motor out and check the valves first..

WHAT!! thats crazy, if he didnt put stiffer valve springs....Unless thats a mild cam i cant see why he didnt put stiffer valve springs. I know someone said that TC uses the same cam as the whitebros track cam, and the web 450 cam, it i dont know how much lift they have but they ought to be more than mild cams.

i cant believe tc racin didnt change the springs. The reason i got the xr400 cam is because i knew that was pretty much the only cam i could use and not have to uprgrade the springs, etc. Although it doesnt matter what the engine builder does if the owner decides to skip brakin the mofo in and go full throttle at the drag strip. :eek:

Well I broke it in to Toms specs but everyone else thinks I didnt give it enough time,,,Tom told me to break it in: start it and let it idle for 15-20 seconds(enough to get the oil flowing) then jump on it and take off,,other than that just dont give it full throttle until about 15 minutes of riding it,,,well im sure i rode it for over 15 minutes before i gave it full throttle????
Im not sure what cam he used but i do know that he grinds his own cams... Im going to call him today and see what were going to do,,,,but i need to do a compression check, if i can find my friend today!!

Well when u get it runnin and you race some modded Zs and Banshees, When you beat them tell them your quad is stock except for a pipe. That will REALLY make them feel bad.

Well its kind of weird, when I went to Little Sahara I had at least 6 people ask me "is that that TC 505" I havent told anyone except the people on here???:confused: One guy said he just heard some other prople talking about it?? Kind of hard to keep it a secret!! Im glad I got a good race out of it though, I was sitting there watching and that Z400(Yoshimura 450 kit) was pulling every 4 stroke out there then he pulls up and asks if mine was that TC 505, I told him yes and he said well lets see what it will do! The first race against him I pulled him by about 10 bike lengths!!! And i even got a bad start!!

You could have a guy show up with a full Leager chassis but no stickers whatsoever and you can guarantee that within 1/2 hour everyone's going to know about it.

its not tcs fault the motor blew... its his own fault for not breakin it in for longer then 10 mins... exspecially a motor that big!!!!! everyone knows u just don't hop on a motor let it idle for 15 or 20 seconds and go like he claimed u have to warm it up 1st!!! even a stock broke in motor it takes a few minutes to warm it up... no wonder it blew up!

yeah its chad fault for the most part for skipping the break-in procedure before goin WOT draggin any quad that would challenge him, but tc should have upgraded the valve springs. O well for 3 grand chad got to beat a few quads in the drags, but that seems a little pricey for that little amount of action.

If TC really told you to break in your quad like that...they aren't too bright....I ran a tank and a half through mine before actually getting on it hard and racing...

Thats a TC490 I think...unless he changed it to 505?

The motor that will be in my R has a history of breaking hinson baskets and HD gears...it should be fun! :D

Alky, I raced that Suzuki a couple of times before I started having problems..Im getting the races mixed up!

NEWs!!!!!!!!! Found out whats wrong with the 505!!! The noise that Im hearing is air blowing out of the side of the cylinder!!! yeap, I blew a head gasket!!! No big problem at all!!! Being that the head gasket is hand made by Tom I will have to send it back to him! Tom is paying for it so it doesnt bother me!! We found out why I blew it too!! We thought the carb was running rich so we leaned it out,,,come to find out it was running lean and we just made it worse,,,the extremely lean condition caused a gasket to blow!!! I found out it was the head gasket after talking to Tom on the phone and messing with the carb!! Tom helped me diagnose the problem!! I had the thing running and pulling much harder than it was(even with a blown head gasket),,,now a new head gasket and Ill be hauling the mail again!!! Heres a problem people have with Lectrons,,,they are hard to get right,,,my bike was too rich sitting there idling, but when you give it gas it wasnt getting enough gas!!! So sitting there idling it was rich, so we leaned it out causing even less gas flow when you hit the throttle!!! I got the Lectron tuned a lot better now, so i get this new gasket and ill be ready to go!

Nah, Im just going to get it running good on gas while Im looking into getting a FCR for alky,,,Ive got a hookup on a FCR carb for real cheap and Im waiting for that to come through!! Then my next steps are NOS and a turbo;)

I hope your kidding when you typed this. I've got a months paycheck that says that motor wont stayed tied together if you run BOTH NOS and a turbo on a large bore such as a 505.

Personally, if your into just drag racing, why dont you look into getting a bigger street bike motor and strap it into a drag frame. Put a 929 motor in that puppy....you wont be looking for more power then...just new underwear. LOL!

Got bored today and decided to try the polishing thing!! Here is a pic of my TC pipe and my AC bumper,,both of them were just brushed aluminum but after a couple of hours of sanding and polishing they look real good! I have sent my header and TC midpipe off to be Jet-Hot coated!!! Next thing to do is the side cases!! Dont know if I will do them myself or send them off yet! That is a lot of work!!

Put your camera in the toolkit on your EX and leave the cap off. Take your quad to the dunes way far away from your house and ride a whole bunch and make sure you do plenty of wheelies. For the sake of EXR member's vision, hopefully you'll lose that camera and have to buy a new one that focuses.

I swear, I could punch tin better than that camera takes pics.

Come on now,,,its not that bad!!! At least you can see what it is Im taking a pic of!!:) Dont look like Ill be getting a new camera for a while either! Next thing is a camcorder because my wife and I plan to begin our own porn website:D So looks like this is all I have for a while!!! But I did get me a good scanner, so when I get my pics developed maybe it will get a little better!!!

Try it Chad....if it breaks then fix it and back off a bit. This is the only way to find the maximum performance. A few weeks back, a buddy 4th of July'd his 440 on 35 shot NOS. Prior to the blow he was running 5.2's (220 lb rider) which is equalivant to about 65 hp at the local strip. EX's have a hard time with 65 hp. On the other hand, I've seen 80+ hp DS's that are reliable. I feel like I'm running the 465 on the ragged edge..Alky473 didn't last long either. If I had to do it all over, I'd start with the largest displacement motor I could find and go from there. Keep us posted on results.

I would still have my stroker if it wasnt for me starting to race TT. I wanted revs, and quick ones, so i traded the stroker and the alcohol carb for 2mm oversive bigger intakes and a lightened stock stroke crank. 65hp from a 440? Wow....

Why doesn't TC bring anything to Four Stroke Wars?? Nearly all other tuners showed up but TC. A Sparks 690 Raptor won it easily and a Sparks 465 EX came in a distant 2nd.

I asked TC the very same question and he said "2 reasons, first of all I am 3000 miles from there, (thats in Sparks back yard over there), and i have a lot of work that needs to be done here,,,I am the only guy here all the time and build all these motors with my hands only!

The Polaris, I'm sure will be much faster. I had some issues with the Pol when I first built it but now everything is OK and has been for over a year with no major problems. This weekend at Lil Sahara will be the first time I will have a chance to ride the EX since Ritter fixed it up for me. First jackass build it and he screw it all up...valves hitting the piston. The Polaris is pretty much a drag only quad, meaning not trailable at all. Even though the EX is also on alky it is still ridable. It's to early to tell which will be more reliable. I have them both running right now and I don't want to jinks anything. ;)

Come on down. I'll let you take a spin on it. Went to Lil Sahara this weekend and dragged a bunch...I'm gonna be stiff in the morning. The Pol did well only getting beat by the 4 sec Banshee's and one CT350R. The Honda did pretty good to. The 465 beat all the Raptors that were racing, but a 416 on alky with a 100 lb. rider beat me by a quad length. I know I could have taken the 416 if I were on the booze. Oh well it was all fun. I developed a base gasket leak and dribbles of oil was running down the cases a bit. It's going back to Ritters Tuesday to have a copper base gasket installed. 9.5 hour drive, but worth it.

A few bugs need to be worked out before I go to St. Joe. Every time I call Sparks with a problem I find something else to do. What I did find out is this 465 does not come out of the hole real strong but pulls like a mofo in 4th and 5th. After break in I nailed it and was kinda disappointed but after about 7 hours run time everything started to loosen up and ran alot better. It will get better the more I run it. I only ran gas through it this weekend...next time out it will probably be on the booze. To be honest, I should have left it a 440 and bought a Bomb and modded it out...I think I would be alot happier. I've heard it a million times, but it's true...No replacement for displacement.

When I was at Little Sahara, after i blew a headgasket and before I knew thats what it was I was pulling everyone out of the hole,,,,then 3rd-4th they would pass me like I wasnt moving!! I knew something was wrong and put it up and didnt find out the head gasket was blown until I was back home,,,,but It was weird how I would still pull EVERY bike on the line by a few bike lengths!, but then it would lose all power! Seems like even off the line it should have sat on its face with losing nearly all my compression?????

I to was getting a little leakage around the head gasket. I spoke with Sparks and Scott said that Curtis metal O-rings the cylinder so that the copper head gasket has good contact. I'm fat on the jetting to because it ran better once the sun began to go down. This was the first time ridden and I expected that some bugs would have to be worked out. Some of my problem getting out of the hole might have to do with crappy worn Sandskates. Not trying to make excuses, for I may have a lemon....to early to tell.
