I currently have a stock 05 400ex..... over this summer i would like to drop it off and have it bored out... I was thinking about a 416 thinking that it would be more reliable then a 440... Could some of you give me an estimate on the price on those kits pls....
Thanks,
Kyle

416 is reliable. 440 can be reliable, just needs to be built properly.

yes the 416 is a reliable one but a 440 can be built to be reliable if it is done right..... i know from first hand experience not to cut corners (sp) but when built right they can last for a while. as for kits i forgot where i went to get it but it was called the scary fast kit.... it comes with a stage 2 magnum cam, namura piston and sleve, and a hi rev cdi box. after that you will want hd head studs, valve springs, and timing chain. it was pretty pricey but it was really worth it the thing has some serious power to it for a 400ex. the kit itself if i remember correctly was around 300 or so. but if you do go that route your are going to want to get the things i said before. like i said it wont be cheap but i think that it was worth it.

I would go with the 416. It will probably be more reliable and you can always still bore up to a 426 or 440 if you want to.
