i have an 04 KFX 400 and the head start blowing a light mist of oil and air out of the hole of the left side of the head. does anyone know what caused this and how to fix it? or much the cylinder head be replaced?

There might be a crack in the head around the spark plug. That hole in the side of the head is so water/debris that finds it's way into spark plug cavity has a way to get out. If you've got oil and air coming out of there then something is wrong.

how about a blown head gasket?

I don't know how you'd have oil/air coming out of that hole because of a blown head gasket. The head gasket isn't anywhere near the spark plug (which is what's at the end of that hole). Maybe a bad valve cover gasket could be leaking oil down into where the spark plug is. But that wouldn't explain air blowing out of there.

check your oil see if theirs antifreeze in it cause if their is then its definitely your head gasket, your z is liquid so that's the first thing id check,or is your exhaust a whitish?may look like steam.

i found the problem. it was the valve cover gasket did not completey seal allowing oil to get on top of the sparkplug. unfortunately i already pulled the head off. thanks for the help.

Glad to hear it's something simple.
