Where else will you find almost 100 kids, up at the crack of dawn (without complaint!) gearing up to race their hearts out in any condition over any terrain? Round #5 in Hurricane Mills Tennessee is one place!

Beautiful Loretta Lynn's Ranch was host to this round and the youth racers showed up in force. 62 entries were on the line for this event and all were eager to get the day started.

All the riders awaited their call to the line and for some, this would be the first time they would chew the same dirt as legends such as Ricky Carmicheal, Bubba Stewart and Jeremy Mcrath as the start was held on the world famous Loretta Lynn's MX track.

The youth riders start at 8am, plenty early for most sane folks on a saturday morning, much less those that will spend the next hour riding as hard as any rider twice their size and age ever will. The unsung hero's in all this are the parents who toil all week, drive all night and worry all morning that their rider will not only due well, but arrive at the checkered flag safe and sound.

And the machinery that these young racers are arriving on are nothing short of spectacular in form and function.

I always look for interesting photographs, and usually the kids supply me with tons of them. I spied Matthew Harris on the line as the morning event was closing in. As I peered through my lens I couldnt happen but wonder what was running through his mind. Harris has a win this season, followed by a few rounds that did not go his way. Could it be worry and stress....maybe pondering how the race would go, what the first few turns may be like when the flag drops....

Nope...he was bored...this kid wants to race!

Cody Hill had a choice this round. Sit at home, go to the mall and kick back resting and healing from his wreck at round #4. Or he could ride to the race in a truck for 10 hours and watch his friends race.

I don't think I got the options past my lips when he started packing his gear and asked if he could carry a camera around!

It must be a mom thing, no self respecting boy racer would be caught dead getting a hug on the line:o ;)

(Dont worry ladies, I have enough pictures to quell any boys that get out of line so hug away!:p )

I have been involved in the Youth racing scene since 2003, and it never ceases to amaze me as I watch these young men and women start taking on the methods needed to race. They may be kids on mini quads to alot of folks, but to me, they are the future in training.

Austin Findley checks out the first turn prior to the start.

Time does fly, and before everyone knew it, the line was readied and the starter was eyeing his watch to get this thing underway.

Dylan Taylor may have not been upfront in turn one, but by turn two he was already looking past the rider infront of him and ready to make some passes.

Dylan worked his way all the way upfront, going home with his first top three of this season finishing this round in 3rd!

With the riders almost done on lap one, I spotted Dylan Bradford heading onto the MX portion of the course. I set up to catch him coming out of a corner but he never appeared! When I looked for him, he had cut the track and was headed across the infield. After the race it was reported he just blew the corner and stayed on the gas. he was accessed a time penalty at scoring.

With this ending up being a 6 lap race, the classes were so mixed by the end that following the action was hard:p The little guys rip and trying to figure out who is who while they go ripping past can prove difficult.

Ill deal with it, you young guns just keep on the gas!

In the end, Bradford was again your winner, taking his win by just over 1 minute. I apologize as I blew the shot of you on the podium:( This marks Bradfords 3rd straight win and he is fast climbing to the top of the points.

Jerry Welch found himself on the podium for the second time this season, and i doubt this is the last we will see of this talented young rider! (between you and me, i think he likes winning!;) )

Jesi Stracham put her Honda right up there with the boys and took her spot on the podium, claiming the 3rd spot. When she can keep a quad under her, you can bet she will be a force to reckon with at each event.

Great race everyone, and I will see you at the Penton!
