here is a veiw from the front... i opted to keep the 350x head lights simply because they rock.

I was told that "back in the day" people were putting the 400EX top end on the 350X bottom end to gain the 6 speed tranny in their 400EX's. Anyone have any experience on this? What's all involved? I wouldn't mine doing one just to be different if it was a fairly easy swap.

you heard wrong.....and thats not back in the day enough...lol

in the 80s a few builders used xr500 top ends on 350x motors but this wasnt worth the time and effort.

but a ft500 street bike head on the other hand is a pretty sweet deal but it takes alot of work

there it a ton of rumors and just plain wrong info floating around out there.... heres the ft500 http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=78141head swap

So true. The 400ex motor uses a head derived from the first "radial style" xr250 honda had to offer. They arent even close to the 350x.So from a technical standpoint, the 400ex is actually pretty outdated.
