I heard from Apex about this Sprocket Clutch that should end all transmission problems for good. It’s a sprocket that has some slip to it. they were telling me that they had done a month of hard testing, trying to break the tranny, and couldn’t break it. Here are the pictures they sent me, it looks like a great idea! When landing from a jump, the clutch slips just a tiny bit and the strain is placed on the pads instead of the gears. They said it should be available by the end of the month and I will be first on the list to get one!

LIKE WHEN THEY PUT IT ON THE TRUCK IT YOURS IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO BAD. IT seem to be a good up grade from stock polaris and we can run the same class.

I've never had any problems with Apex...It uses the same chain size...428 I think. I dont know what sizes it will be in. I would guess 20 Tooth, that's what size they use stock.

Let us know how it does. I have a concern with it able to slip on impact what keeps it from wearing those clutches and it start slipping while under accelaration. Keep in mind more power in a bike might make it slip when launching hard or mini gets in some soft sand of thick mud and the added load may make it slip aswell. Im not nocking it till I have more data. We have the bushing mod done and no failed trans either.

Keep us all informed.

This is Paul from 609 Custom Motor Sports. We are the original designers of the slipper clutch for Apex that you see on the earlier post. We have been working with Greg from Apex to bring these slippers to the market at the most reasonable price possible. We have tested them extensively on several Apex quads from "stock" to "worked" with zero transmission failures to date. The slippers have zero slip during holeshots and only slip during extreme torque situations; such as a hard landings on the throttle. The slippers have 100% recovery and have a very long service life. The slippers have a replaceable slip material that is very easy and economical to replace. Then can be made to any sproket size (18, 19, 20 tooth, etc...) We have yet to experience transmission failure with even stock transmissions (i.e. no bushing upgrade or transsaver external bearing) although we believe that both of the upgrades are very effective. The slippers are "bolt on" and can be used in conjunction with the transsaver external bearing. This slippers will also fit almost all Jog type quads. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at paul@609custommotorsports.com or visit our web site at 609cms.com or you can contact Apex Motor USA directly.

Thanks,
Paul

P.S. Once you install this slipper, and your rider doesn't have to fear transmission failure, the potential of these quads is incredible.

Hi, I have seen the one used by Paul@609 and it has been jumped very ,very hard, and has had holeshots, and still keeps going! It is definitely a great part!

I can make one for any type quad. The quads with the clip on sprockets are a little more involved, but there are several options. Contact me at paul@609custommotorsports.com and I'll gladly help you out.

We are going to need them in a 520 sized sprocket, either style shaft. Otherwise the chain on our race engines literally strips the rear teeth off the back 428 sprocket. Any chance of a 520 version?

We just recieved our Slipper sproket from Apex. It is a diffrent style than the one in the earlier post. We will be testing soon looks like a well built part. This is the only pic. for right now.

If you are building these clutched sprockets then what is stopping you applying a few springs and a push rod to 'deactivate' the clutch during use and then therefore using a clutched/automatic hybrid.

Then more advanced kids can slip the clutch to get higher in the rpm range or pull the clutch in oin big aior to save the gearbox.

just a little idea, does kind of defeat the point of being automatic etc, but could be a way fo advancing these minbis even further forward.

These gears do look very fancy though. but having a nut holding the steel plate against the friction pad does seem a bit hmmm, because if the nut comes loose you have no drive whatsoever. and what about in muddy/wet conditions, if water gets into the clutch and decreases friction?

We dont build the sprockets. Apex sent it to us to test but they are for sale. This is just one more item to stop the dreaded transmission break. We have been doing the bushing mods and have great success.

How much to do the bushing mod, and what is the turn around time, thanks

We have bushings in stock so when we get your case checked for straightness and install bush 2 days.

Thanks
