Here's the one I built last year. I no longer have it but it was a fun quad. I'm looking at buying another one right now lol.

Do you have an idea of what they did??? It is way to expensive to send a frame to America from down under. Thnx

Me and my buddy just got done building a 520SX hybrid for him..it really went smooth. Only thing was that we couldn't utilize the swingarm bolt through the engine, so ears had to be made for the rear engine mount, and it had to be moved ahead some. The top left frame rail also had to be cut and bent up and around to clear the top-of-engine mounted water pump on the katoom. Other than that, it's a wet sump engine, so no oil tank is needed. I'll get pics as soon as we get a hold of a camera here..it's gonna be nasty!!!

those all look Awesome Guys...is there any modifications needed to a 400ex frame to stuff in a CRF450 engine? I'm highly considering attempting to do it...But dont wanna mess with my newly powder coated frame. Anybody make adapter plates or something I should be aware of?

ktmquad

This is not 400ex framed but it is a Laeger hybrid. It is a 525exc KTM hybrid. I will try and get some pics of my buds 550 2-stroke ktm quad, it is in a 400ex frame. My next quad is going to have the 250sxf KTM in it, for my son.

Most of these look pretty good, but are they old? Just curious what the point of these are? Why not just buy a 450 quad?

What class can you race these?

The swingarm pivot-bolt mount is the only existing factory mount. Two new tabs were welded to the upper section of the frame to accomodate the upper engine mount. Square tubing was added below the upper, rear shock mount. That, combined w/a removable bracket, accomodates the rear engine mount. The front tubes that support the 400ex's front engine mounts were shortened, shaved and relocated. The lower engine mounts were cut, smoothed, and replaced with a section of tubing to accomodate the 650R's lower engine mount. The factory oil tank mounts were replaced w/another section of tubing, w/ two 9/16 nuts welded to it, along with two rear tabs to accomodate the new oil tank. Two lower tabs were welded in place to accomodate the trx250r radiator. Also, the front, upper fuel tank mount has two 1" spacers welded on top in order to slightly raise the fuel tank and keep it from pinching the upper oil line that feeds the cylinder head.

Unfortunately, in order to kick start the bike, I have to remove the seat and the rear brake lever to get a full kick. It can be a bit of a nuissance. But in the end it's worth the wheelies on demand, the ablility to embarass your buddies on their 450's and raptor 700's, and all the double takes and rubber necks from complete strangers. I just can't wait to get it in the sand.

It's up for Quad of the Month right now. I would def appreciate the votes.

People build them for a couple of reasons. One is yes, a lot of them were built before the 450s came out. But obviously, you have never rode a hybrid. Mine uses the 250r geometry which is one of the BEST balznced frames there ever was. And with t eCRF motor, tweeked just a bit, long travel front and rear, its one of the fastest "stock" bikes around

can anyone tell me what the differences, if any, in geometery between the 250R, 400EX and 450R?

i have heard that arms and the like are interchangeable between the 250R and the EX, which leads me to beleive the front end geo is the same on these quads?

what is different about the 450R?

thanks, mark

its the weight setting, on the rear and the front, how the frame sits to the ground.

the 250r is 51% in the rear and 49% in the front i think for the weight...
yes you are right alot of the parts bolt right on them... with little or no mods...
