is there a special oil to use when assembling my 400ex engine? i know everything needs to be super-clean; can i just coat everything with oil?

I have heard some people use peanut butter in regular motors. ......

But I use this stuff you can get at Autozone or Checker.... It is red and slippery as hell. I think it's called Cam Grease.

Me too, you should be able to find some at your local dealer. The molybdenum additives are especially good for the top end during dry start. Make sure to coat everything liberally!

thanks all...still looking for the broken shift fork end...comparing it to the new one, it's a pretty big piece! maybe in the oil pump screen but haven't checked yet.

I read one time on here that you can make an assy. lube out of white lithium grease, 20w50 motor oil and some stp oil treatment(the kind in the blue bottle). Just mix all three in equal parts and it'll make a super sticky lube that wont run off any of your parts. I tried it when i put my cam in and it seemed to work good. It was just aggrivating to make tho.:scary:
