My key is under my hood, Left in the "ON" Position, and My temp light is Zip tied into a bracket and is in plain view when I'm standing...

EDIT: Just saw that you have an ER, this probably wouldnt work in your case.

Could always get one of these from Trail Tech (http://www.trailtech.net/030-H400F.html) if you dont want to mount it in your plastics

I have found a good spot to zip tie it to the frame and still be able to get to it, to turn it on/off.

I just spliced my ignition wires together so they are always on. As for the temp light you can drill a hole slightly smaller than the light anywhere in your plastic and put it there. Mines right above my right front fender.

As promised here is the pic of where I mounted my key switch and temp light.. Its a bracket that comes with 300ex fenders from Maier..You may be able to buy the bracket directly from them by itself.. I just mounted it using one of the mounting holes and then drilled out the other mounting hole big enough for the light to fit in..I think it looks good..

ditch the dummy lights and put the key in the plastic! look in the right fender towards the tank.

in the side pannel in front of my tank. I have an 04 and wanted to keep my key and light. My temp light is in my barpad its a bit hard to see

sorry this one is a cell pic and looks horrid but you can see how I just carved a small bit of the pad out and I slid the light into the pad. It works well like that and I can see it fine.

I ordered that baby from http://trailtech.net/atv_x-bar_clamps.html

Not too sure what it came to but it is pretty sweet. I over tightened the freaking clamp and cracked the chrome :( I got a trail tech VAPOR with it also and the bars. Nice setup and cleans it all up.

heres mine, not a close pic, so i circled it in yellow, just zip-tied to the frame, works great and no drilling involved!!!:)
