we took it apart after we thought it was something with the valves and the timing chain is really loose. It snaps wen the motor is running making a loud ticking noise when on the downstroke..We were thinking it was the tensioner that was bad could it be or possibly what else ? Thanks

It could be the tensioner or a streched chain. I would go ahead and replace both while your in there. Maybe think of a heavy duty chain while your at it.

^^^^ exactly. chain could be wore or may be a bad tensioner. but while your in there replace both and upgrade to a CRF chain, it is cheaper anyway
