400ex clutch or tranny?

i just rebuilt my 400ex put in a hotrod crank and rod, took the tranny out and checked all the gears and shift forks, replaced all the bearing in the cases. installed a 426 piston and stg 2 hot cam. this thing flies now, only problem is when i shift into 3rd gear it seems like the clutch slip, then catches again, then slips, it is intermediate, clutch is good in all other gears, thought it was a clutch so i installed a brand new Tusk clutch.im thinking i may have to tear the cases apart again, anyone with any other ideas.

sounds to me like you may have a bent shift fork, or the gear is not shimmed right in the tranny like a missing thrust washer or something. i would say you are probably looking at a tear down again.
