Ratchety clicking sound?

I have a clicking sound coming from the left side of my motor. Almost sounds like a ratchet sound click click click noise. Does anyone know what may be causing this. I just got the bike and it runs and rides great it just sounds funny to me. It has a 310 kit and a lightened flywheel. It has a stator but the wiring has been removed.

I had a 98 cr125 but it wasn't modded out maybe its normal.

It sounds to me like its coming from inside the clutch cover.

is it shifting okay hows the clutch have you changed the oil lately

It shifts like a champ but I havn't checked the oil just bought it tuesday rode it for like 15 minutes. I'll check the oil, what oil would you recomend for the tranny.

spector clutch saver amsoil. it could be some a big peiece somthing in there and thats whats making that nosie so if change the oil look and see if theres alot of metal

Which side is the "left" side?

When speaking of left and right on a quad, the common definition is if you were actually sitting on the quad, facing the front. So the brake pedal is on the right, the shift lever is on the left, ect ect.

The "left" side is the stator, not the clutch. If you have a ticking from there, I'd suggest removing the cover (no oil in that side, and can be removed without removing engine from frame).

If you don't see anything visibly lose, start poking and prodding. Check the pulse coil bolts, ect ect. Grab the flywheel and give it a shake up and down, left and right. It shouldn't budge (but it will spin). If it does move up and down, you've got worn crank bearings.

If you still can't see the problem, you can even fire up the quad without the cover on, AS LONG AS YOU KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY. That flywheel spins pretty fast, it would literally take your finger right off it it got caught. Look to see if the flywheel is wobbling.

play with the clutch lever while its at idle, varying from slight tension to full pulled in. i've seen worn clutch baskets/push rod assemblies make a similar sound as you describe. i would pull the clutch cover and do a visual of things.

most two strokes typically make a normal semi-rattling sound when at idle but, what you desribe may or may not be the clutch "chatter"

on a side note: inspect the counter balancer while your at it for safe measure.

It does it when it Idols and it speeds up when you throttle up its definately internal.
