i have a 2001 400ex, with a powercore 4 full exhaust and k and n filter with removed lid. does a timing key give you any noticable gains? if so how much??

the sparks degree key is in imo the best mod for a stock 400ex that $20 bucks can buy, i used to run one on mine untill i got the 426 big bore,it gives you great throttle responce and low end also very easy to install your self.im going to say that the dgree key mod cant be beat for only $20 no other mod is that cheap and will give you that kind of a preformance gain for only $20 ,the only down fall is that advancing your timing 6 degrees makes the ex run a bit hotter, and they say to use it on a nearly stock machine i ran mine with an edelbrock carb a k&n filter and a white brothers e-series pipe and i love the gains i got.

I recently bought one and absolutely love it. My quad was already a torque monster but I felt a power increase pretty much throughout the whole RPM range. It's crazy cheap to for what you get out of it.

yup its always a good idea to replace any gasket once you break the seal if not will just give you problems later. colby at c'd racing or your local atv dealer.

you can order the key direct from sparks and the gasket from service honda...or you can save yourself the hassle and just order it all from C&D...

I just got pricing from them the other day and ordered today...

Ok thanks, also why do you need a side gasket?

there's a 99% chance that the gasket on there will tear when you open the case.

here's the atvriders article on installing the key:
