hey guys, i have been looking for a new quad and i have consdered everything from a 400ex to a raptor 700 and everything in the middle. i have heard a lot of good things on the z400s, and i have looked around and they have some good deals going on, so i have made my pick, but i have just a few questions.

1. are really tippy?
2. is there any flaws on stuff on a sertain year?
3. what would the best year to buy be?
4. are they reliable?
5. i am 6+ foot 190 pounds would they be comfortable to do alot of trail riding?

i am sure i would come up with some more questions but this will do for now thanks for your help.

I recently got my z400 aswell. For me, I love the quad. I do a lot of trail riding and it is very comfortable for trails aswell as jumping it. They are very reliable quads if you take care of them (just like every quad). The best year to buy would be like a 2005 and up.

There are some flaws with the 03-04 and the 05-06. With the 03 there are the shock mounts that tend to break and crack, but nothing a nice gusset job can do. And on the 05-06 there is the magnesium clutch cover they put on that thats giving them problems, but nothing a 03 clutch cover cant fix. There are prob more, but thats just the bigger things. Im sure you'll be happy with a z from any year as long as you care for it ( which you should be doing with every quad.

You won't regret getting a Z! IMO they are the best all-around sport quad.

And here is a deal for you! http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&postid=2814214#post2814214

that is a great deal, and I'm not sure on your location, but if it's too far, that's why they have shipping!

Oh, and by the way, the clutch cover was fixed by the dealership on it too. :macho
check it out, let me know. tell me what you think about it.

Right now yea thats all i can think of for the 05. They fixed the horrible chain adjuster, shock mounts.... but yea an 03 clutch cover will fit on it.

if you do alot of jumping you may want to gusset the frame before it cracks on you (Im a bigger guy also) you will prob. bend the stock axle also.

as far as I know those are the only bad things, if your not into jumping too much it will be great.

z400 would prob. be in everyones top 3 trail atv's if they where all honest.

anybody?

the fat kid
04-26-2007, 05:21 PM
dont personally know but they are fine im sure, but the catch being that youd need a new set of shocks or have yours revalved...

mach1stang
04-26-2007, 06:26 PM
i would need to get them re valved. umm what is the cheapest way to re do them or what not?

atvrider23054
04-26-2007, 06:41 PM
Personally I would send them to one of the site sponsors or just buy aftermarket shocks when you get the a-arms and axle.

o alright i was hoping i would not have to, would the ltr or 450r shocks fit and would they work with aftermarket arms?

atvrider23054
04-26-2007, 07:12 PM
Well you dont have to buy aftermarket shocks, but it would make a huge difference. you ca njust revalve your stock shocks

mach1stang
04-26-2007, 07:29 PM
o ok, i would take it you would re valve them becaus ethe arms would make them softer?

the fat kid
04-27-2007, 05:22 PM
i dont know if it gets softer or stiffer but fyi elka sells a set of fronts that are like in the neighborhood of 400 bux id just save up and get aftermarket instead of re valving. or maybe since the price is 800 bux with the two items you could get a kit from someone for abouthe same price and the brakelines will come iwht it...
