dont think u could if u are only 12 and 80 pounds go for a 300ex you can at least do more stuff to a 300 than a 250 to make it faster i would be surprised if you could even reach the pegs on a 400ex

Get The 400ex. One of the best quads to learn on.

there's no way in **** you could handle a 400, not at your size....

no offense, but you're small even for a 250's standards. i'm surprised your parents haven't put you on a 90.

if your parents agree to getting you a new quad (or letting you save up for one) get a 300ex. from the way it sounds there is no reason to move up, considering your size and age.

i also own a 250, but i'm gonna be 15 in 2 days and am 5'8 or so and 125 lbs, and i think the 250 is just fine for anybody of my size and age.because i'm gorwing in both experience, size, and age, i will eventually upgrade to a 400, but that wont be happening for at least 6 months to a year or so.when i do get one, it'll only be because i'll be tired of playing keep-up with my riding pals (dad on the scrambler, dad's friend on ds650, friend's son on race ready 260 blaster soon to buy a stock 400ex) and because i'll be cramped on it. as striker49 once said about the 250ex riding with the bigger Ex's, "eating roost all day is not fun".

if this is about having the biggest, fastest quad in the neighborhood, stop where you are.i guarantee you there will be plenty of time to own a bigger badder machine like a raptor or Z or 400ex

for now, love what you ride and ride what you love.

yes, i totally agree, but my parents have grown up around bikes, and i started off with an XR80. i was a natural rider, didn't need no help with a cluth or anything, but it got boring after a while, and i felt atvs had more of a purpose, so that is why i have bought the 250, but i find it's not powerful enough, like i ride with kids with 400exs, 300exs, banshees, etcs, you know da hard-core, bad-*** bikez. i feel i need somethin more, so i want a 300ex, or a 400ex, i know size does matta, but hey, if i kill myself, i kill myself, thanx for ur advice and all, but i might try a 400ex out, not buy one, but try one out. i might stick with the 250, or i might move up. it all dependeds, well thanx!

i have once parked next to a kid around that age on a R, i was amazed by the fact that a kid was on a R. those things seem too sacred to be ridden by a kid LOL. but seriously, the one i saw i think was the first and last one i've seen in person that had stock UNCUT plastics.pretty sweet looking machine.....

i say go wit da 300. i get thrown around on my neighbors and im 15 5'9" and 195lbs. and ive been riden since i was 6. it really doesnt matter how good your are at riding. if you can throw a 4wheeler around you can do so much more on it than if ya just hang on and let it throw you around. im strong and i am thinkin about a 300 just so i have something to throw around rather than hang on to. i have a 250 right now and you gotta admit its just fun the things you can make them do.

yes i totally agree, but the 250ex DOESN'T have a clutch, I mean, even my lil xr80 has a clutch. in my opinion, clutches are the best part of a bike! and yes, they are extremely fun to throw around!

One reason I say get a 400ex is you don't have to upgrade when bore of the 300ex. My first quad was a 400ex and turn out to be a real good choices

If you have maxxed out on the 250ex, I would probably consider a 400. My son just turned 12 and he is in transistion onto the 300 that I have. The 300 has plenty of power for him, but the 400, in stock trim, is a safer quad. The 400 is wider, and longer. When I was on the 300, it would flip so easy on hills because of the short swing arm.. The 400 does not have that problem. However, with he being smaller and shorter than me, that "flippage" may not be such a problem. Weekend after next, I am taking both quads (300 and 80) for him to ride a the VSTA ride at Loretta Lynns, aka Demo Days by the QuadShop, we'll see how he does. Just a point, if you ride WOT all the time, the 300 is plenty.

well, im 12(turning 13 on the 25th) and im saving my money for a 400. Even though im alittle bigger than you.....105-110 pounds and like 5'5 you have alittle more experience then me. I will be buying a used 400 as my first quad. i dont care if i have to go slow for the first day....i know plenty kids that are my age and ride modded 400s and rapters and handle them fine. you just have to take it easy and not expect to ride a wheelie through the gears the first day you get it. And like sick0 said, i will not have to increase the bore and do so many mods to keep up with the other kids that i ride with(like 10 400exs). So i say if you get the money and find a nice used 400ex id say go for it and you wont need a new quad for a while.

yeah, i'd go with the 300ex, but i just don't like the bike so much. i have no clue why, but i don't. the reason that i'm considering a 400ex, is because i can get a 2001 400ex, for 5400, canadian, plus it's local, so i don't have to pay a shipping fee.

yes, the 300ex does have a short swing arm, which is not good for me due to the fact that there is a HUGE pit behind my house, and it is the biggest climbable hill in NB, it is pretty much straight up, and not so many bikes survive goin up. so the pit owner has tried to block it off, but no luck, we just built a trail around the block, anywayz, my point is, i need a big swingarm, cuz i wouldn't want my bike flippin up "killer" or "bigsandy"

Get the 400. The only reason I could see getting 300ex is because it has reverse which don't metter to me because I weight 200lbs and throw my quad by myself incase I get stuck behind a tree or some thing. As small as your are, you may not be able
turn the quad around by yourself in thewoos. Some thing to consider.

BTW, that cosin i got, the 12 year old, he has raced it before, so jus goes to show ya, if ur a decent rider, u can handle a 400 easy

alright, i'm ready, i'm goin to eldridges honda or toyz for big boyz on tuesday to try da 400 out, yes, reverse is a major problem, but i think i could handle it :) plus, i'm alwayz ridin ith friendz when eva i go muddin or anything, so i'm in luck, if i decide to buy the 400, i've got 5400 canadian, and i can pick it up, so i'm ready, honda will someday come out with a reverse kit for them

Don't plan a reverse kit. Be safe and have fun the 400ex.

out of the 3 quads i've had (Recon, Blaster, and now 400EX) the 400EX is the best. the blaster was fun, but i just out grew it in 2 months. if i were you, i would just go ahead and get the 400EX, IMO it's the best quad out there, without spending all the money for a dale :blah

i say get the 300 ex unless you have been riding for over a year at least...then at least you have some experience but jif you do get the 400 just be careful, and don't let it own you :devil
