Round #1 of the Suzuki Cernics Regional Series kicked off their season this weekend with the opening round being held at the Pleasure Valley Raceway facility located in Armagh Pennsylvania.

This six round series hopes to bridge the gap between the local series and the national events and allow riders of all skill levels the opportunity to experience racing at some of the premier tracks in the region.

With absolutely perfect weather on hand, the track was in peak condition for the days event. Many top caliber names will be in attendence at various rounds and the biggest of them all was on the gate for round 1 as the "Ironman" John Natalie took to the track for practice.

For information on this series, please check out www.gopamx.com

Trent Kandel made the trip from his Millersburg, OH home to do battle and get some more seat time in as the season starts moving at full speed.

Tom Fink, a well known A class rider was looking to have a great day as practice got underway. Tom has been racing for fun this season, but don't let that fact make you think he wont push it as hard as he can to get a win. An asset to our sport, it is always a pleasure to see Tom at the track.

As the riders started to pass my vantage point, I kind of started getting excited seeing the areas fastest riders had made the trip to todays event. Randy Lehr is dangerous to anyone planning on walking away with the win, because at any event he can strike and leave you wondering what went wrong with plan A!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:12 AM
I almost dropped my camera when none other then Shane Hitt made his way past me! It was awesome seeing Shane and what history he brings with him. A legend in his own right, today was going to be spectacular and none short on talent!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:16 AM
Justin Bres works his way around the Pleasure Valley course, which consisted of just about everything one would expect to find at such an event. Natural terrain jumps, elevation changes, a rythm section that would seperate the men from the boys and enough airtime to make riders stay on their gaurd as the action heated up.

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:19 AM
24 entries had signed up for the Pro Am class, forcing a qualifier to see who would be on the gate. Nathan Alexander
gets warmed up for his chance to be on the line with some of the nations top talent

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:21 AM
Dwayne Mallow is local to this region and carries with him alot of talent. He was pretty stoked to see some big names and couldnt wait to go racing with them!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:26 AM
If you live in the area, and follow MX racing, then Paul Gregg's name is familiar. Locally, he can win just about any race he signs up for, and with the availabilty of skill in the classes he races, thats saying a ton!

Paul would be itching to rub nerfs with Natalie but was also feeling down for signing up to run his first ever Vet class now that he is eligible for the class. At 30, Paul is in better shape then most 18 year olds and after watching the amount of laps he put in yesterday doesnt have anything to prove to anyone except himself!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:28 AM
There was no shortage of fast Women in attendance as well, with Michelle Suciu getting warmed up on her Cannondale

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:31 AM
And the Youth classes would be in for a long day with Joel Hetrick on the scene

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:41 AM
Practice continued throughout the day, as riders fine tuned themselves for the track.

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:43 AM
The rythm section proved to be the most challenging to most but thankfully everyone made it through most of the time with out incident

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:45 AM
The three biggest things needed at today event? Sunblock, gatorade and the nerve to hold her wide open!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:47 AM
Everyone anticipates the Pro race, but if they dont stay trackside, they miss some outstanding riding in the amature ranks!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:50 AM
One of the most exciting classes to keep an eye on is the 13-15 Youth production classes. This class produces some intense racing and today would be no different

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:55 AM
Anthony Mastrocola was paralyzed at the GNC at Steel City last year while competing on his quad. Since that time, more people have seen a true champion in him then if he had beaten every pro rider that ever pinned a throttle. He is an inspiration to everyone, whether you have serious health issues, recovering from a debilitating injury or just having a bad day. He is so upbeat about life that you can not deny the fact that being a great person means nothing about what you can or can't do in life, it is all about what you are willing to do!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 11:58 AM
Anthony was at todays event just hanging out and remaining close to the sport he loves. T shirts to help him raise some funds were available for purchase and I saw alot of support from everyone, and I thank you for that!

As the racing was under way, Anthonys character just kept shining through, as this picture captures him cheering on a fellow racer who himself is dealing with Diabetes

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:11 PM
In the qualifier, it was Kandel pulling a slight edge as the field raced to the first turn

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:14 PM
Natalie was out front and took a look behind him, kind of surprised that Kendall wasnt pressuring him as was the case early on the first lap. Kandel took a digger coming out of the rythm section but was back on the pegs and riding hard again

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:20 PM
Lehr was charging hard, but passing was going to get sketchy as those in front were not shy about staying on the gas!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:21 PM
Hitt was making a run, and was smoking fast in the corners. He worked himself to 8th at the checkered flag

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:24 PM
Paul Gregg was holding off a hard charging Kyle Dammann

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:31 PM
Unlimited A

Kyle Dammann charged through the first turn and was off with a hungry pack of riders running him down.

Pappy

Tom Fink #133 works his way in traffic as rush hour hits turn one

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:34 PM
Dammann was on a mission as he sets sail over the rythm section

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:36 PM
Mallows leads a group of riders as everyone was trying to blaze through this section and pick up a few spots

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:38 PM
I dont think they had figured on running this close today:p

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:41 PM
Tom Fink planted himself when he cased the large step up triple and was then chewed up and spit out by the rider behind him. Thankfully, Tom was ok and by the time I made it to his pit to check on him, he was gearing up for more racing!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:46 PM
Unlimited B attacks the rythm section in force as the field had not yet seperated early on the first lap of moto 1

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:48 PM
Matt Shapaka was dicing and slicing his way to the front and went on to win moto 1 in Unlimited B

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:51 PM
Charlie Mcvay#20 and Niko Difonza#24 were about to show everyone what the 13-15 Youth production class is all about. The pair put on one of the best moto's of the day and it was a sight to see!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 12:54 PM
The duo swapped spots for the first part of the race, but Mcvay was able to get out front when it counted taking the heat win

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:03 PM
B rider Sam Henderson airs it out as the moto's continued throughout the day. Henderson finished the day 3-3 and looked like a solid rider

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:04 PM
The checkered flag comes out, and the riders start showing just how much the moto took out of them.

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:07 PM
In College 16-29, only one name was being repeated as the winner and that was once again Matt Shapaka. He went 1-1 in this class, as well as 1-1 in Unlimited B.

Now thats some serious riding!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:10 PM
Vet

Paul Gregg may have been dreading the Vet class mainly because it meant he was the big 30. After the race, I bet I know 7 other Vet riders that dreaded it as well!

To say Paul dominated would be an understament.

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:12 PM
The start was classic, wheel to wheel and alot of dirt being chewed up!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:14 PM
Paul was on the gas hard for a lap or so, then let up a bit knowing he still had the Pro AM main to ride

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:21 PM
90 Production 8-15

Jordan Davidovich was out front from the gate dropping to the checkered flag and was looking great. Jordan went 1-1 on the day. My son races this class, and watched from the fence with his arm broken up. He will be healed by the next race and looks forward to racing again and seeing what he can do to offer you a good close race!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:26 PM
Brandy Cottage rode her Honda to a second place finish!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:27 PM
Kelsey Laurine rounded out the top three

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:32 PM
In the Womens main, it was Michelle Suciu grabbing the holeshot over hard riding Michelle Natalie.

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:33 PM
natalie might have been eating some roost through the first corner, but by turn two she was in second

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:36 PM
Suciu was holding a small lead over Natalie as the first lap was completed, however she almost got bucked off her ride and Natalie could see an opportunity

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:37 PM
With the small gap now almost a memory, Natalie was putting pressure on Suciu and the race was on!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:39 PM
Kelley Winters is relatively new to atv racing, but she is learning fast. She had finished 4th in the first moto and was holding 3rd in the main

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:41 PM
Suciu again opened a small lead but again almost came off the quad when she took a bad bounce off the step down

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:43 PM
Natalie put a charge on as the pair worked the back section and did everything she could do to make a pass

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:44 PM
As they were about to drop out of my view, it was yet to be seen who was going to win this fight

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:45 PM
Suciu again pulled ahead over the step down but Natalie fought right back as they again went out of my sight almost wheel to wheel

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:48 PM
The final results showed that Natalie dropped back on the last lap, but being another moto was starting i was unable to hear what happened to her. This opened the door for Winters to take home the second spot, garnering her the 2nd spot on the day! A big congrats Kelly!

Myka Carpenter went 5-4 on the day

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:50 PM
90 Modified (8-15)

Joel Hetrick was screaming out of the gate and never looked back, taking a 1-1 on the day and adding another victory to his trophy wall!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:52 PM
#64 Joshua Walker and #105 Jordan Kaufman finsihed 2nd and 3rd respectivley

Pappy

College (16-29) Main

#421 Gregory Loucks grabbed the holeshot, but #22 Matt Shapaka was coming up from the inside

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:57 PM
#333 Andrew Zimmerman fends off other riders has the laps counted down

Pappy
04-23-2007, 01:59 PM
Shapaka eye;s my camera as he sails to victory!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:01 PM
Joey Smith gets the holeshot in 90 CVT

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:03 PM
Ryan Smith rode his way to second on the day

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:06 PM
Kyle Kozura was having a great main, and finished 3rd in this race. If he had not suffered a mechanical issue (broken chain tensioner) he stood a good shot at getting an overall win as the eventual winner did not fair well in the second moto.

Tough luck young man, but I have no doubt you will get more then one victory in your racing endeavors!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:11 PM
Pro AM Main

Natalie came out of the gate and headed for the first turn as the entire pack of riders converged on his grab bar

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:13 PM
Paul Gregg was getting slammed and was in trouble. No one was giving an inch and this was not a good situation to be in

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:17 PM
Luckily, Gregg held it together and scrubbed off of Justin Bres and saved it. Bres got the short end of the stick and was pushed outside but made a heck of a run finishing 4th in the Main

Natalie came screaming around for lap 2

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:19 PM
Kandel and Hitt were running down Natalie as the pair headed after the Ironman

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:20 PM
Kandel passed Natalie and the pair headed out of sight over a small table

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:24 PM
Randy Lehr had moved into the 3rd spot as Gregg spun out.

Gregg and Bres were running 4th and 5th as Fink and company bring up the middle of the pack

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:29 PM
When Natalie and Kandel came back into view, the war was on as they attacked the rythm section. Kandel narrowly got past Natalie and they were out of sight yet again

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:30 PM
The battle for 4th was being waged and it was Bres that would be the victor

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:34 PM
Mark Vaia almost lost it as his quad spun out and hooked the edge of the track

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:36 PM
The next lap was almost a carbon copy of the first as Natalie and Kandel went at it in the rythm section, again, Kandel pulled out just ahead of John

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:38 PM
I had considered making a move to a new vantage point, but I figured if there was something big going to happen it would be in this corner or the rythm section.

Kandel went outside this lap as Natalie stayed centered and again, the race was for the lead was still alive and on fire!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:40 PM
According to the time on my picture files, Lehr was a mere 10 seconds from the leaders and riding without contest in the 3rd spot. If the front runners got together, Lehr stood a chance at blowing past both of them! If Lehr could get some support, I have no doubt we would see him on the podium of national events.

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:44 PM
Natalie made a pass out of my sight in the back woods section and came railing over a decent tabletop just prior to the rythm section. I did not see a large gap at the table between Kandel and Natalie, nor did I see anything when Kendel landed the jump that allowed a large gap between the two riders.

What I did hear was Natalie on the rev limiter as he absolutley hammered the rythm section leaving Kandel and motoring his way to victory!

Pappy
04-23-2007, 02:50 PM
Natalie proved once again he is the "Ironman" and rolled out of Pleasure Valley with some cash in his hand and another first place plaque for his wall.

Shane Hitt lost his seat and that pretty much summed up his moto. It was a shame, I know everyone was a buzz about seeing him at this event and I know he would have liked to been up there in the battle.

Lehr held on to the 3rd spot and this was a great race for him.

I enjoyed the event immensely, and encourage anyone who can to partake in what Cernic's and Suzuki are offering in this series!I also hope you enjoyed the coverage and I look forward to seeing everyone at Steel City for the next round!

I'm out!

Overall awesome weekend and a HUGE thumbs up to Cernic's and the sponsors for making this happen for us QUAD racers! I really am proud of Michelle Suciu for racing 4 awesome moto's and turning some heads doing it. 1st in Womens and 5th in Quad C with the fellas. That's my girl!

I was reading through at your last picture of Randy you stated to the effect with a little support we would see him on nationals podeiums... i CANNNNNOTTTT agree more, that kid does everything with the mere help of his dad and small sponsors, burgard backs all his parts but not his bikes, his job, and his income! This kid has more NATURAL tallent than anyone I personally know and arguably one of the most tallented riders on the national circut. Hopefully this kid get backed by someone he deserves it more than anyone I know!!!!!!!!! KICK ***** job this weekend 110!!

Good coverage Pappy

I hope Steel City is the same way.

BTW, do you have any more pics of Unlimited B? My buddy ran that class (Garrison #19...had a rough day...probably could have won the class, but he ate **** at the bottom of the hill after the whoops) and I only spotted about 15 pics of B. If not, it's cool, just wondering.

The two cameras and lenses I was using at this race would run you $4000 and $6500 not to mention over $1000 in cards, battery packs etc:p (Yes, I was lugging around over $10,000 worth of cameras...you gonna mug me next round:blah: ) Fun aside, it's the man more then the camera, much like it's the rider more so then the quad he is on. I just hope I see some support in sales this season, it is as expensive for me to run a circuit and outfit to cover them as it is to race it, and I dont get no cool trophy to put on my wall hahahaha.

I also have received alot of emails and calls regarding how to order pictures. If you order through that site, JUST ORDER 1 and I will get as many pictures of you as I can on a CD. So if I have 10 shots of you, then that is what will be on the cd. If you email me, just included the picture numbers and pay using paypal bkperformance@peoplepc.com

I have uploaded all the photos I have of the event at http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/thumbpage.aspx?e=2853065 I saw your buddy wreck but all I managed to get of it was a dust cloud(I was to busy yelling for the flagger and EMS guys to check on him)

As far as Lehr, he has matured into a rider I would promote to anyone looking to sponsor. He has always been fast, but now he is riding smart and fast and thats the combo that makes a champion. I've been watching him ride since he was 14 and think the world of him and his family.

If I have more of C class, they are now uploaded. I wasnt shooting this event with the thought of getting every rider (although I do try!) so if I missed you this round I will do my best to get you at the next one.

Also, here is a gallery of just Natalie http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/thumbpage.aspx?e=2856137

I got some cool segments of him nailing that rythm section...enjoy

i agree about Randy Lehr, I rode with him a couple times at breezewood, he looks like its effortless for him to fly around the track for twenty minutes. he is one of the fastest people i have ever watched on turning, he is against the rev limiter around every one! I cant believe this kid is not sponsored! If I had half that talent!:eek2:

I am just glad you were ok. I almost dont like making friends with many new riders just because I cant stand seeing friends hurt. I dont like seeing anyone hurt ofcourse, but when you know the rider it is worse:p

I got a call tonight and heard that one person may have broken their knee, and another an arm. As fast as some of them rascals were running, thats pretty good I reckon:p

Also, here is a gallery of just Natalie http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/thumbpage.aspx?e=2856137

I got some cool segments of him nailing that rythm section...enjoy

And I think jeff wanted to run joel on the tractor:D

HAHA i might just have to mug you next time. Just joking Pappy hopefully i can make it to steel city and catch you there. Next time i am going to watch your picture taking skills. Like you said it's how you work the camera and i wanna learn how to work my cheap camera better. I like taking pics and i try coming up with some new angels and stuff all the time. I can't do much kneeling because of my knee surgery so that takes a few options away from me.

Dude I am so glad you're okay--I was in my pit when a quad rider from way back---Jay Stein---came over & said that someone hit the concrete under the bridge & wasn't moving. It got eerie silent & everyone looked at each other but couldn't say anything.

Glad your okay--hope you get better soon!!!
