k i am 14 about 6' and 195lbs and i am thinking about getting a new quad
i have ridin my freinds quads so im not that new to riding but i still am inexperienced since i have not owned a quad yet so i am looking for a nice quad thats pretty fast and easy to ride and maintain
i have been looking at both the 350 and 400ex for a long time now but i still want to know which one is easier to ride and maintain and which one is better performance wise but also keep in mind i am pretty big for my age and want a quad that can handle me and fit me good as well

Well bud, I would def. go for the 400ex for performance and ride comfortability. I rode the 400ex and the raptor and didnt like the raptor at all. It didnt have near as much power as the 400ex did. The 350 is more of a begginer atv though too.

the 400ex definitely. its a lot faster than the 350 raptor and its a bit bigger. there is a lot of mods you can do to the 400ex also.

400EX for sure!

Reliability is the only place where the 350 can compare to the 400EX....both are hard as hell to kill. As far as everything else, it isn't even a competition. The 350 is more 300EX territory than 400EX.

In case the trend wasn't already clear: 400EX, no doubt.

I've ridden both recently (well, the Rap350 was actually a Warrior350, but mechanically they're same thing) and the 400EX is on a different level. As mentioned, the Rap350 is more closely compared to a 300EX.

I know this is a Honda forum, but you guys are being a tad hard on the Yamaha. I've owned both, so I can speak from experience. Power is VERY close on both of them. My 350 with a pipe/jet/filter would beat a stock 400ex in a straight line no problem. I know I'm talking slightly modded, but the Honda still has a 50cc advantage. Handling stock-for-stock definately goes to the 400. The Rappy is pretty narrow stock. Reliability is dead even-they're both indestructable. And the Rappy350 is nothing like a Warrior for those that don't know. It's 25lbs lighter (its actually lighter than a 400ex), has WAY better riding position/feel, and is a little quicker due to some minor changes. I'm not pushing for the Yamaha or anything, just giving some facts from somebody who has owned both. They're both good quads, the 400 is a better platform to start modding on though as it does have the edge in some areas.

yeah the raptor 350 is more comparable to the 300ex, in power and everything. the 400ex has much more upgrade potential if you ever want to down the road. the raptor is a decent beginner bike, but the power can be outgrown quickly while the 400 has a huge aftermarket for ugrades so the bike will grow as your skills do.

I had a blaster, a warrior and a 400ex. Ive ridden and worked on many warriors and many 400's. The warrior/raptor is a great machine, just like the 400ex. Suspension wise, the 400ex kills it. Power is a little diffrrent though. Ive ridden a piped warrior and a stock warrior. None of them will keep up with a stock 400. The 400ex will alwas take the warrior by a little.

A piped 350 is pretty close to a stock 400, but most of it is rider.

As ffor reliablility, the warrior and the 400ex were the best machines ever made. Period. Thats why you see so many of them.

400ex for sure,

motor has not changed since 99, they are bullet proof motors.
close to the same geometry frame/suspension as the 250r (the best handleing atv ever made)
millions of aftermarket parts to choose from (even used).
the 350 rappy cannot compete with the 400 on any level.

its not that the rappy isnt a good quad, its just not in the same league.

think about it...............until the 450r the 400ex was the hottest honda atv you could get.

People are still referring to the Warrior though. The Raptor is not the same bike as the Warrior. Sure, same frame, MOSTLY same motor, etc... It has Way better ergos, 25lbs lighter, and more power. Actually, there's a site somewhere that lists all atv's horsepower I saw, and the Raptor was only "I think" 2hp behind the 400ex, and it's lighter than it. I'm not bashing the 400 AT ALL, I have one that's got some work to it and it's a great bike. And I'm not saying the 350 is better than it either. Just saying that you guys are giving the 350 way too little credit. The only place the 400 is LEAPS AND BOUNDS ahead of it stock is handling.

hp #'s can be missleading, my 250r put out more hp than my 450r but the way its delivered plays a bigger part than the hp#.

stock 400ex 27-28 hp
stock 350/rap/warrior 21-22 hp

both weigh aprox: 375 pounds

well i have to dissagree with you there.

the raptor 350 is more than 2hp behind the 400, try 5-6 HP lower, which is alot considering how little they produce anyway. and for weight a stock 400 weights in at 386lbs dry with the raptor weighing in at 11 lbs less at 375. and like others say power delivery is key. the power of the 400 is much different than the raptor. the raptor is more of a trail machine, while the 400 is more of a true sport machine. head to head, the raptor is more even with the 300ex than a 400ex.

the 400ex has better handling, suspension, and better power. the warrior is a good bike, my little bro has one and they are great but no where near the same class at teh 400ex.

I agree it's all rider. But lets not forget a Blaster only weighs 325lbs and can make 30hp easily with a 240 kit. Anything can go fast with the right rider and a little work..lol.
