Well as some of you may know, I am building a 1986 honda trx 250R from the frame up. I have spent about $700 on it this week alone. I just cant stop modding this thing lol or buying parts. The original plan was to build the bike piece by piece while i went to college. Well that fell through last week and this week. I think my total so far on the build is about $1100 or maybe more. Maybe one day ill calm down but damnit i want to ride this thing!

I know the feeling. I just scored some Pro-tect stainless chassis & swinger skids for $94 shipped, I think retail is around $250.:macho I usually just try to upgrade one part a month on the R. Just got to discipline yourself to keep the spending down. Then just sell off the parts you replace to help makeup the cost.

well what i bought for it so far is stuff that i need to make a rolling chassis. So far i have:

Lonestar swingarm
Lonestar +4 axle
Lonestar chassis to stem clamp
Houser steering stem
Houser bar clamp
OEM black gas tank
Stock spindles and hub
and of course my 86 250R frame i picked up off of ebay.

Now on ebay im bidding on, front motor mounts, top motor mount, and gas tank mounts. I think that will be enough buying for it for a while, or I hope so :)

Thats one hell of bike you have though.

Yeah i know what you mean, i recently bought an 88' 250R in rough condition to work on slowly. Yesterday i placed a 550+ dollar order on random parts.
I think i got
Black gas tank cover
Seat cover
Front nose piece with stock light in it, also black
Billet gas cap
Shock covers
Scoops
K&N filter/outerwares

And that's just the first order...i plan to get more soon. I need to draw a line somewhere...

Oh i forgot, i also got a new FMF QII or whatever silencer...

is yours running? Mine isnt and it sucks! I want to get it going so bad lol. Its gonna take some time. I have to send out a bunch of stuff for chroming and powdercoating

TheNewn

Yeah i bought it running, it just needed a new coil, but it fired up with the old one. Just wouldnt run very well.

I have it completely torn down at the moment, going to paint the A-arms/Swing arm. Try to give it a less rough appearance.

For some reason the previous owner(s) decided it was a good idea to not have rear brakes...(went through a couple teenagers)

the funny thing is, my Dad used to own this very 250R like a year and a half or two years ago. Funny coincidence

awesome! I bet he was happy to see it again. I need to finish up my roller here soon so I can go ahead and put some wheels on this thing and have it waiting on the motor and such. What color are you going with? I was going with all black and chrome but i saw a brand new Dodge Ram with the electric blue metallic color on it and it looked sooo good! So im thinking about that color frame and misc. parts with the black fenders and some motorsport alloy sportline wheels with the black ring around them painted the electric blue metallic

oh its staying alive. I just bidded on a lonestar bearing carrier and my rear brake system. Im also thinking of switching out my Houser racing steering stem for a Roll Design one. What do yall think about them? Would I just be paying for the name?

TheNewn

Personally i think if you already have a steering stem, just keep it and spend your money one something you dont have that you need to make the quad work

I'm having the same problem, deciding what to spend my money on to get the best price/performance/fun possible.
