Well i mean if your gunna do MX and dont plan on modifying it then go with the LTR. If your gunna mod it go with the YFZ

I want to trail ride it and the local mx track the odd time wit my cousins. My dad would just want to trail ride. I would'nt mind gettin into mx racing in a bit. I've been looking at a 2006 trx 450 er for $7000, its a new left over i thought that was a pretty good deal. I can also get some money off since my uncle is high up at the honda plant. Im leaning towards that. Whats the difference between the er and the r, other then the er has electrice start. or is that the only difference ?

Why not get a 400ex like your sig says?

But anyways you can't go wrong with any of the 450's listed.. But if it was me i'd go 450r.

Wait do you have any prior experience with quads before? IE, owned one?

Either get a YFZ450 or 450R, I personally rather a YFZ450 because the 450 has a 2 stroke feel to it and it's snappy as hell!
The YFZ450 is made for the MX track, but if you buy a 12T front sprocket the YFZ will be a good choice for trails.

Yea thats $7000 grand canadian, and no i've never owned one. i Put that in my sig like last year when i did'nt know much about quads. I know i want a 450 forsure, i'll prolly end up racing in a bit and i don't feel like buying say a 400 ex than having to sell it. Might aswell just go buy the 450 off the get go. Be alot cheaper and would'nt have to waste time looking for one.

Nah man im not gettin a 400ex waste of money, i like to go fast, and hit jumps. But im not saying that the 400ex is slow or can't take jumps it just im prolly going to get into racing soon so no point to buy the 400ex then have to mod the **** out of it, might aswell just get a 450. Remeber tho i ride sleds so its not like i can't handle it. I've riddin fourwheelers and dirtbike's before.

They're all good quads. If you're fast it won't matter what color you pick.

mc. muffin are you serious ? the r feels like 2 stroke ?

the yfz and R do have diff. power curves but its the yfz that comes on late and loves to rev (like 2 stroke)

the R has so much more torque, and pulls best low to mid until modded ................have you rode both ?

I would buy a trx or yfz, im not gunna bs there both good quads i just kinda like the honda cause they have always treated me right. For utility i would buy a Sportsman 800 or 700, there heavy but they will move a house! My friend has a new girzzly 700, its only 5 months old and it wont hardly run the valves are hitting the piston And yamaha wont cover it.

Not sure what kinda riding your dad is going to do but check out all these quads:

King quad 700
Grizzly 700
Can Am 800
Can Am 650
Brute Force 750 and 650

All seem to be nice quads. But they are all very diffrent. My top picks are the Grizzly, Can am 800, 650 and King.

well, thanks alot for the imput. I've been talking to my buds, and looking around and i can get a solid deal on any honda threw a family member. Now im stuck on the trx450r and the rincon 680. Im not sure if the 680 is good or not, cause noone has listed it. So whats the deal with that quad are they crap or what ? Im getting one in the next 2 weeks so quick responses would be great. Thanks alot guys/gals.

Is stayner any were near st.marys?

I see you are a sleder, i would not recomen a 400ex, it will feel like a tonka truck. Get a 450r- yfz450.

I can vouch for the Rincon, we've had one for a couple years and it is a nice ute. The power delivery is smooth as can be as well as the semi-auto/auto tranny on it. Pulls our 2 place pwc trailer with two full size Sea Doos up a 45 degree grade out of our basement no problem. This is the first utility I have ever ridden that will wheelie on end just by pinning the throttle. There is so much torque on tap you don't even have to yank back on the bars its that impressive. The independent suspension is awesome as well, off-road the thing rides like a caddy. Definitely a nice quad for someone looking for a smooth comfortable trail ride.

For you I would get the LTR if you are eventually going to race. For about 1,500 bucks you can be completely race ready. For your dad I would get a Honda Forman. They one of the best utes for the money, bulletproof, plenty of aftermarket parts for it, very realiable. Plus they manke them in a S version which utilizes a semi-manual transmissions which some people prefer.

I would actually say that it is the opposite. I have been riding Arctic Cat sleds forever (I now have a F7:p ) and I think that snowmobiling is way easier than four wheeling. To me 60mph down a twisty trail feels about the same as doing 25mph down the same trail with an ATV. Sleds are way more predictable and you can quickly get yourself into trouble with a quad due to the lack of tracking vs a sled.

If I was to put the sport quads into classes like sleds:
The 400ex would be in the 600 class (fast enough for anyone to have fun)
The 450s would be in the 800-1000 class (unbelieveable power)
