i know, i should know by now, but can i turn my 400 into a 440 without taking my engine to a machine shop? I'm running low on money and i jsut bought the parts to make it a 440, jsut waiting for them to come in the mail... i wanted to know if i could do everything myself? thanks for your help.

unless you have tools to press a new sleeve in and bore the cylinder, no.

Yep ^^^, sad but true. Stock sleeve needs to be pressed out, cylinder needs to be bored to accept 440 sleeve, 440 sleeve needs to be pressed into cylinder, 440 sleeve must be bored/honed to match new 440 piston.

When my EX was a 440, I just took everything to a local machine shop and had it done for about $100. If you want to do it right, have everything professionally machined...the rest of the install you can handle on your own :)

By the description it sounds bad ***, I just wanna see it!

And with a 440, go with HD parts, like HD cam chain, HD studs, the right gaskets..
