If yours are good about $200 -$250. or you can cyro treat them for $50. ;) That is what I did. :D

Whats cyro? Is it as durable as hardened rockers? Where can i get it done?

heat your rocker arms to a glowing red and then dip them in oil

That is not what cryo treating means. Cryo treating uses liquid nitrogen to cool metal down to a very low temp, the theory is that it re-aligns the molecules within the metal when it shrinks. This is NOT a replacement for hardfacing the rockers.

My engine builder swears by this methed. He has been building jr dragsters and he uses it on the block and rod to help strengthen it.
CAIN730 is right, they freeze it in liquid nitrogen and bring it to room temp very slowly. It is suppose to realine the molocuels so it will make the material stonger and wear longer. I do not have that much time on mine, since I only did this back in June. I have only ran a few races, but no problems yet. I am taking my motor apart to do some more engine mods and I will let you know what it looks like then.

Can you realy heat the rockers up and put them in oil. I never heard of that.

All hardened rockers are, is hardening the steel. To harden the steel you heat it up to 1440 degrees, that is when it is red hot. Immediately take out of the heat source and dip into oil. This rapid cooling realigns the metal stucture to a super hard material. At this current stage the metal is extremely hard but brittle. You will probably not want to run them like this. Next step is to Temper the metal. This is bringing the metal up to a certain temp to lower the hardness but make it much less brittle. Usually ranging in the 450 to 550 degree range. I'm currently taking a Metals Technologies class, on monday I will ask my instructor what temperature would be best to temper the rockers too.

O.k. Here is what your $200 gets you when you get your rockers hard faced. The top layer of the rocker surface that rides against the cam is ground down and a new layer of hardweld is applied and then re-machined to the correct tollerances. They actually build up the ground away area with weld. I'm not saying that you have to do this but most of the major motor builders out there are going to recomend it.

Thanks.. When you put them oil does that add carbon. Because I was think the more carbon you add the harder some thing is.
