my friend is in the same boat. i keep tellin him to stop spending money on the 300 ex and upgrade. the amount of money hes put into it he could have a nicely modded 400ex.

depends on how much you ride, for a while I was riding all the time, but lately I haven't had the time. I was pondering the same question as you, I really wanted something bigger/faster, but after our latest trip to the dunes, I came to the realization that I can keep up with all my friends, and go anywhere they go.
so, looking back, if I would have spent the money on a new quad, it would have been a waste. just haven't had the time riding this year to justify the cost.
if you ride all the time, and are constantly pushing the limits of your bike, then the answer is obvious. but if you get out once a month or less, (think about it) it's costing you $130 (or whatever monthly payment) minimum just to ride. for me, it's just not worth it right now. maybe in the future. my 300ex is paid off, and that's nice!

Well said Dan, you are a rare voice of reason when it comes to buying new quads that one might not ride much at all. I keep wanting to trade my 300ex in on a Dale, but we don't ride enough to make it worth our while - but there still is that pull to trade her in, and like you said, the 300ex is paid for. :) The flipside is if he is going to spend couple grand on his 300ex if he keeps it then he probably would be better off spending that same money on a new quad with more hop-up potential. Just my 2 cents :)

the z will require less money to mod the motor and u will have more power...u would be way ahead of the game goin wit the z....throw some a arms, a axle, elkas, a pipe and cam and its ready to go

Go Z, cause if you don't ride much now, that will change when you get the Z, it's great.

UMMMM id sell it because by the time you put all the money into it a 400ex would be much better.

I hate to say this but buy the Z. Make honda pay for not coming out with a new sports quad.

I say weigh out the cost of each and see where you will be. I think it would probably be cheaper to sell the 300EX and buy a new 400, then it would be to build up the 300EX. Plus, you would never get out what you put into the 300EX (or any quad for that matter.) The 400 will have more power and handle better right out of the box. Then go from there if you feel like you want/need more power or better handling.
