IMO if you are just trail riding or racing XC the gearing is just perfect. I love it.

I did alot of work to get some gears made and find a match. If you want perfect gearing for a low cost either go up one in the front or go down 2 in the rear. I recomment the rear cause of the clearance is better.

The rear sprocket is the same as a 400ex except the bolts that hold the sprocket on are tapered at the head. Meaning get tapedered headed bolts and a cheap ex sprocket offf ebay and your set to go.

I took mine off to get one matched and made. Sprocket specialists made one 34 tooth rear for me out of aluminum and its a link loc. The front sprocket is the same as a YFZ450.

With just a 34 rear you will do about 77mph plus or minus 1. I havent GPS'd it yet. For dunes, definitly the 34 all the way and if you need more just throw the 15 on the front.

I have alot of mods on my KFX450 so if you wanna know where to get good parts and what works great let me know.

Here are my mods...

So far I have the Crower intake cam, ESR full exhaust, 15 front and 34 rear sprocket, 2" handlebar risers, removed the rear P-brake, clutch cover protector, new chain rollers, Dynojet programmer, PRM front to rear skids, And a rear cargo carry, and I think thats it.

I just got done installing it tonight and tomarrow i will let you know how sicck it is.

I used the GPS after installing the rear 34 and 15 front and 83.2MPH was my top speed. Its alot faster than I hoped for, so I went down one tooth in the front, which is back to stock(14) and its perfect gearing. I dont know the tops speed but I must say its between 79-81. I will find out soon. Its got so much power with all those mods it perfect. I do want a new air filter though. But noone makes it yet I guess.
