This is just my test bed. When i get the bugs ironed out of this it will be resurected as a 401 stroker, and yes I have been clearing out alot of my stuff on Ebay I have collected over the years. Plus I bought a complete 350r from a guy I know who didn't ride it anymore and needed the money. I also put a long travel +3 Laeger T-pin front on my quad. I will tell you my 350 story when I get some time later. I work 3rd shift and I'm going to bed.

He's buying too. He picked up a new AC swinger skid for $25 that I had my eye on. I just happened to forget about the auction and it was over by the time I remembered. Story of my life.:(

Thats cool. I know what cylinder that is. i wont say. but the piston that orginaly goes with that cylinder has a diffrent wrist pin size. and you said it uses the stock long rod crank. that head is a work of art to.thats just awsome.

Where and how did you come across a rotax setup that cheap. Also one thats only 350cc. All those I have seen are big drag motors, packard usually.

You seen this yet Jon

where'd you get those front tires????!!

My R came with Hoosier's like that, but when I went to order another set was told they discontinued the molding ( this was ~ 1996).....

The Tires are made buy DURO and I have seen them in the Parts Unlimited catalog before. I bought these off Ebay used with the Wheels for $112.

This version of the motor is a 350 and it uses the same 77.94mm piston from a Niks 350 big bore. Here is a breakdown of my cost so far.

$125 Cylinder with powervalve
$ 35 77.94 mm piston new (I love ebay)
$230 250R engine in need new crank (did I mention I love Ebay)
- $140 Sold the stock cylinder, head and pistion
$40 good used long rod crank
$50 Fill weld the cases(add material to machine to accept the cylinder)
$180 Machine work to bolt the cylinder onto the base
$40 Custom .100 base space from Cometic
$140 head and dome
$80 various gaskets seals and bearings

Priceless My time to do all the detail work, make custom parts and assembly.

Total $1080 for a complete 350 PV engine

And the best part is for an additional $360 in parts This can be bumped up to a 401cc big bore. I have been doing this myself not really copying others that have done this before. I just wanted something different for riding and to see if I could do it. Once I get the bugs worked out I will be putting it together as a 401cc. I just didn't want to smoke a $260 4mm stroker crank and $120 piston on something I haven't tried out.

Well you have done a great job and I completely commend your effort its fantastic. I think I shall wait for the 314 sphinx to come out. Obviously if you have not already you can guess what the picture I posted is now.

jon370r

What make the 314 sphinx different from a Niks cylinder? I know it a different casting but the port layout looks to be the same. Won't it come down to how good a port job it has?

fiveOnick
05-11-2007, 10:19 AM
This view doesnt look the same.

Is it going to be a nickle plated bore? What type of powervalve will it use? Up to what size bore and stroke?

fiveOnick
05-11-2007, 04:06 PM
Yep alum, no sleeve. I think 68,72,74, and one bigger like a 76 or around there. Another cylinder thats bigger will not be powervalve and will be available in larger displacements. I dont know any details on the vavle or stroke.
