Took my rear shock off today (400ex) to adjust the preload. The preload collar is frozen and I dont have a spanner wrench.

Any suggestions?

screwdriver and a hammer. They are supposed to be locked down like that.

It's easier to break free if you leave it on the bike. Holds it in place for you =)

Like 400exrider707 said, screwdriver and a hammer works perfect.

Yeah, I would just leave it mounted up the the quad unless you have something that can hold it well in place while you pound on it. I use a punch or chisel and a heavy hammer, or a screwdriver works too. Try spraying some WD-40 on it, it should help it unscrew.

If you don't want to screw up the preload ring too much use a brass punch and a hammer. The brass is softer than the ring so it won't ding it up as bad. Use whatever as a punch if you don't care lol  :p

Like said above it is much easier to do this if the shock is still on the quad. Definitely soak it in some PB blaster or WD40 to help loosen it up.
