A Honda dealer mechanic told me that the trx 450 is a monster with a high comp piston and hrc kit. My 05 stock is 10.5:1. Is it safe to run a 13.0:1 comp Wiesco piston in my stock engine with only the hrc kit and premium fuel, or should I run the 11.5:1 Wiesco? Keep in mind, reliability is my friend.

One of the guys I ride with has an 05 with the HRC and put a 13:1 in his and has had no trouble he rides the **** out of it with no problems yet. The 06and 07 is 12:1 stock so I doubt just goin to 13:1 in your 05 is going to pose too much of a reliability issue but try it and find out you may end up with a screamin bike.

JE has come out with a 12.0:1 piston for the 04/05. I'd be concerned about trying to run pump gas with a 13.0:1 piston in a 450r. I'm confident that in my riding environments, with the pump gas available in my area, pump gas would not fly w/ 13.0:1.

YMMV

How much more power is the 13.5:1 compared to the 13:1? Would the stock 12:1 in the 06 to the 13.5:1 be a good jump in power?

I ride hard wherever I am. I've prefered sand dunes in the past, but I am thinking of trying the huge ATV track that is about 5 minutes from my house. If I like it I may race some day. I am interested in good power for little money. I think a higher comp piston will run me a little over $200 if I remember correctly. If I had $1200 + lying around I would do the 04-05 498cc Ice Cube big bore kit. Thanks guys

You would gain about 1.5 horsepower from a 12:1 to 13:5. You will notice a big difference in bottom end power. I have a 13:1 in mine now and when I do my rebuild I would like to go with a 14:1!

Thats what i wanted was more bottom end. I was hoping it would get up to speed a lot faster. I hear 14:1 will kill ur stock crank.

I dont know too much myself. All i know is i burnt up my rings so decided to get a new piston. I was told 13.5:1 is all the more i wanna do.

i run the 13.5:1 in my 06. the reason i went with it was i didnt want a horespower monster and i didnt want to lose to much reliability. i gained a noticable amount of power after the rebuild but i also got a new crank and had the head ported.
